Morey would be the best GM if mda overachieved in playoffs. Big Overachievement would be 2 rings with suns and 2 rings with rockets. Game 5 and 6 are underachieved.
Ariza wasn't the answer 2 years ago; we still lost to Golden State, just like we did last year without him. What makes you think he'll be the answer next year? The Ariza boner on this board is baffling. There are other options, younger, quicker and better shooters.
This is just like the Criticism Harden gets . Sure , DM has made mistakes .... plenty of them. But no one bats 1.000 . Morey has put together multiple rosters capable of winning a title . In 08-09 he got robbed by injuries . Sure they were to injury prone players , but to get that good of a chance with the hand he was dealt is impressive . He then flipped assets while not being allowed to tank to land harden and built around him not once but twice . Dwight didnt work out . CP3 hasn't worked out The one valid critique for Morey is that he takes huge risks . He committed to Dwight and CP3 as our #2 player when there were questions about the health and longevity of both . Hardens first max was a no brainer given he was 23 . But , it's not like he could have just as easily substituted younger stars . He had to take what was there and hope that he could build enough around if . Some people will bring up PG , but last year CP3 was better . This year I'd say PG was better during the regular season , but lost season was a wash . Next year do you figure it will be PG . Morey is aggressive . He is the ONLY GM that has been going at GS from the get go . Maybe he would have been better off shifting focus to these upcoming years a few years ago , but what's done is done . He's always been incredibly quick to be able to shift direction . Look at the way he quickly rebuild after the 15-16 disaster season . And then parlayed those assets into Paul . We've never had a "bad" contract like Paul's. This new owner is also a wildcard . It will be interesting to see what we do , if we do , if we can do . As far as I'm concerned . Morey and Harden are the franchise .
Call him out?!?! The guy came in, and....almost won a title (were it not for the Yao injury against LA). After that,Les charged him with reloading...NO REBUILD....and he did it. Daryl's the best GM in the NBA. We are beyond fortunate to have him.

I don't think Morey is trash like this thread suggests, but he definitely hasn't done enough to justify the 'best in the NBA' accolades. Not when a team like the Golden State Warriors exist, and not with huge strike-outs on Morey's resume like Dwight Howard, Royce White, Ryan Anderson, and sooner than later we probably have to throw Capela and CP3 in that mix too. Not to mention the infatuation with Melo.
Paul is a better player than dragic, but dragic can shoot from the three. If losing record in January, it has to start half scale rebuild. its easier to trade other 2 players.
Anderson - mistakes happen - every GM is gonna get the occasional Stromile Swift / Kelvin Cato contract... I thought it was a bloated contract when signed but most thought it reasonable... at least RA had established numbers to justify it - who expected the guy to fall off a cliff? (Edit) plus signed EGo at same time - and that contract has worked out well... Capela - dont disagree with the skill assessment... still a positive value contract we can move... CP3 - if that was the deal going in (a max contract) to opt in for the trade you gotta honor it... 'High risk options" to try to maximize the window... Everything else I put on MDA - a guy Morey didnt necessarily want... Sposed to be 3s and layups... coach jus keeps greenlighting (pun intended) everybody chucking 3's without pushing for more pitp... We need to bring in a coach that can be an authoritarian - without pissing our stars off and hold guys accountable... The system is fine - but needs tweaking - and somebody that will actual adjust it in game as needed... I think Morey knows he needs a different coach - thats why the extension didnt happen... imo... Now the offseason and the sh*tshow that was the whole Melo/Bzdelik debacle I lay at Morey's feet... and the undervaluing of size has been ongoing... Overall I thinks he's done a good job building the roster and laying the foundation - but proper utilization has not happened... imo...
I've posted a similar trade - Dragic , Kelly & Winslow (if you can get him). Either of these trades makes the Rockets a better team. I don't think so , not at all. Dragic is a much better fit next to Harden and doesn't have to have the ball all the time to be effective and is also a better 3p shooter. He'd also be great as the 2nd distributor because basically his game is much like Harden's. Throw in Olylyk … and you have the outside shooting big everyone is crying for and you get to keep Capela too. The 3rd piece , if you get Winslow is a solid defensive wing that can do a lot of other things too …. just what we been needing since Ariza left. They may get the best player in CP3 …. but we end up a better team for it. Quick , name another GM who has been able to accomplish what Morey has Once while Morey has done it Thrice. No other GM in the modern era has built a contender without tanking. Morey gave you Yao and T-Mac with a talented cast around them derailed by injuries to Yao's foot and McGrady's back. Morey gave you Harden and Howard - arguably the best center in the game at the time again without tanking. Morey has given you Harden & CP3 without tanking. He got you within sniffing distance of beating the Warriors twice …. and the second time with handcuffs on in the form of financial limitations that are all but undeniable. Send Morey a thank you card …. You could be one of the other 27 teams that haven't had a chance the last 5 years.
You don't ask too much when Heat trade $68 million for Paul 124 million contract. They pay additional $56 million dollars for the deal. I guess they overpaid Waiters but not Winslow. Tilman is not willing to pay $4 million to MDA or House. 56 millions is big.
