I guess it's preference between luxury and trackability. The Z4 is more comfortable, softer dampening while the Supra is going to be stiffer and have a lower center of gravity while probably having hardly any safety understeer and wanting to immediately rotate.
He is also spoiled, he gets to drive and work on literally every super car that comes out. He drove a Bugotti as a freaking daily driver for 6 weeks while his team was developing brake pads....
Design wise it is a FAIL. The 90s Supra looked outstanding. The 90s Z looked outstanding. The 350Z when it came out, nailed it with its design, which is why I pre-ordered it a year prior to release and was one of the first ones to receive it in USA and enjoy it. That car looked amazing. This new Supra looks too much like the Mazda RX-7. Disappointed.
I personally think it looks amazing. Not many manufacturers are willing to have this combination of a short wheelbase, wide track and low stance. Makes it look really muscular in its stance. Thankfully, it's really good at what it's meant to be good at, being fun to drive.
Glad it’s back in some form. Overall I think it looks good but have issues with a few of the stying points. May not once we start seeing them around and I get used to it. Main problem I have with it is being setup as a pure sports car with the transmission not being either a DCT or manual. I realize a DCT adds some costs but it’s entering the price point where those start happening.
Ya, that's the glaring negative. It should launch with a manual. Most likely there will be a manual option available in a couple of years.
Kind of wish the engine was Toyota instead of BMW. IDK what's in those lexus sports coupes, if some turbo 6 they could have used instead, guess it's about the inline 6, is why. Anyone know, what BMW models have that engine? Edit: agree regarding MT
I don't think it looks anything like the old supra, the old supra had very clean lines. Not saying this car is ugly just very different IMO. I will say those performance numbers are outstanding. My current dream car is the Lexus LC.
Many people were perplexed why the Supra wasn't built from the LC platform. But I have to say I'm glad they didn't. The LC is meant more of a luxury grand tourer and weighs 4500 lb. It's fast, amazing interior, sounds amazing but isn't a hoonable track car. I like the position the Supra is in the market. 50 grand is a good price and as long as they eventually add a manual, this tickles the sweet spot for me. The thing about Supra generations is that none of the previous generations looked liked its successor. The mk3 looks nothing like the mk4. And with the massive time difference between the mk4 and the new Supra involved a massive difference in safely and emissions regulations along with new manufacturing techniques and advances in material science, no way the new Supra would anywhere resemble the previous generation.
After looking at the video I actually like the styling more and can see how it's an updated MK4. It's actually bigger than I thought and not so busy in profile, white does nothing for the car IMO. Can say might be something I would like at as a used purchase.
I am more of a luxury tourer guy my favorite BMW is the old 6 series. After watching some videos a am not as down on the styling at 1st it looked like a kitted BRG. I can definitely now see some of the MK4 cues.
