After his team’s epic choke job, that’s very rich coming from him.

Repeating the losing formula, only adding age and an increasing salary figure for Paul each of the next 3 years is absurd. At least try something else more flexible, and trust Morey to fill in the pieces before Harden declines too and retires ringless. Beard is my dude :'(

The caps are out of frustration, breh.

Elton might want to be careful talking about another team's player(s). (...If that is indeed Elton.)

YES! that is serious tampering. Maybe this was moreys plan. Get a dumb GM like Elton off Brand to open their mouth and owe us a pick.

This is all great but he misses at least 20 games every season. And gets paid beaucoup. And only showed up in Game 6 of the GSW series.

I love what he brings, when he brings it. Hopefully the Rockets can add to him and Harden but when they eschewed the exit interviews this year,,,,

Maybe the honeymoon ended for CP3 and Harden and they're now in the "can't believe he puts the toilet paper where it rolls under, and I hate the way he chews, why do his undies have skids" part of the relationship.

Harden had to average nearly 40 a game for a long stretch of the season because Morey did a bad job of building a bench in the offseason and CP3, Capela, and Gordon missed significant time due to injury. The Rockets, at one point, were James Harden surrounded by mostly G-league players.

Also, why does everything come back to points per game? There is much more to being a good basketball player than how many buckets you get. For example, Chris Paul is still an all-star level facilitator. He’s not an all-star level scorer. Those are two different things. However, by running the offense almost exclusively through Harden when both share the floor together, you are not maximizing CP3’s skill set. Considering CP3 is going to be nearly impossible to move at his salary, it makes sense to tweak the offense to accentuate his strengths. Maybe I’m wrong, but James Harden should be able to thrive as a prolific scorer whether he spends the majority of a possession with the ball in his hands or not.

    I'd honestly choose option 1.
We've acquired two aging stars before, why not reset the timeline again?

I never said CP3 is perfect. His declining athleticism, expensive salary, and injury-prone nature make it highly unlikely the Rockets get comparable value for him in a trade. So, either the Rockets trade him for pennies on the dollar and get demonstrably worse, or they figure out a better way to use his skill set. I’d rather do the latter.

I agree with the idea that coaching could fix a lot and bring out a bit more CP3. Harden be willing to adjust his off the ball game (probably now his biggest opportunity) would be awesome but IDK if it will happen.

I feel like we are close enough to where we should keep CP3/Beard/Tuck/Gordon and try to supplement by trading Capela and picks.

Keeping CP3 will enable us to be almost-contenders -- unless he gets hurt in the postseason, which, based on his history, would not surprise anyone, and would kill any contenderness about us.

Trading CP3 could be great. It will definitely be good in the long run to avoid the end of his deal, but it could be beneficial in the short run as well. Of course, it could hurt is in the short run too. Who knows.

Do we trust Morey to improve the roster more than we trust CP3 to play well and/or stay healthy? I think I do.

The problem is James Harden turns 30 this offseason. Wasting a year of his prime so you can reset again when he’s 31 is a risky proposition, and no guarantee of success, either. I also disagree with your notion that the Rockets can’t win the championship next year, provided Morey doesn’t blow the offseason again. The Rockets were in every game with the Warriors with or without KD. If Morey can turn Capela into a useful piece against Golden State, retain Rivers, and add another playable piece or two with the MLE, then they have a shot. But, you are right that simply running it back is not going to get it done.
