A little surprising. I don't know much about his actual role in coaching the Cavs. I know players like him, but how much does he actually get involved in Xs and Os? Not sure really.
Upon reading the full article, I'm not sure the headline matches. It says Houston offered him a contract when he was fired to come into the organization with no formal offer since then and that Ty Lue is focused on becoming a head coach. Maybe not much here.

I know I'm just too much of a womanly man... but sitting around smoking cigars with the godfather on at all, much less on repeat, while it's perfect weather outside... sounds horrendous to me.
I think this is a leverage play to get Hollins or Thibs to sign an offer or something, otherwise adding Lue smells like a disaster waiting to happen
Lue aged 40 years in the last decade. Coaching a Lebron-led team must shave so many years off your life. Bron's passive aggressive antics, the entourage, the media circus, the expectations... No thank you.
Lue didn't turn them down over the money, it was the obvious lack of commitment from the Lakers. He didn't want a 3 year contract.

Duh. IF, and I think he's a big IF, he were to become an assistant it would be for significantly less money than he turned down from the Lakers. His eye would be on becoming a head coach again with a bigger commitment than the Lakers were willing to give him.
