I love these set in stone CW predictions that failed impeachment means 4 more years of Trump. What is your sample size for this? The record of the Clinton impeachment is decidedly mixed. Remember, most of the people who prophesy to know exactly what the consequence of impeachment are going to be, also believed there was no way an idiot like Trump could ever be nominated, let alone, elected -- a sentiment shared by many persons in 2016 ranging from Hillary Clinton to me to Donald J Trump. (This also what's boosting Biden's campaign, so...yay?).
I completely agree. One of the few things i like about Trump is that he is not an ideological person. Its the general nature of politicians to pander to a base. Hardline ideological people struggle to get elected. What I despise about Trump is his scorched earth policy. This country is perfectly fine handling 4 years of it. I am concerned future candidates using the same policy. It will absolutely erode this country if this type of behavior is ongoing.
Let me also add - I don't entirely disagree with Pelosi's strategy of slow-rolling impeachment while a factual record is amassed back in January. But times have changed. Unfortunately Trump is too vain, stupid and unhinged for this to work or to just ignore it and change the subject, so he just keeps escalating and escalating, along with his henchman Barr (whose tactical acumen is ****ing terrible, he might have bought a few weeksof favorable media coverag with that bullshit summary, but then he burned himself to death when the full report came out other than to Trump Now she is going to be forced to act, especially if the administration defies every single oversight request and continues to act in defiance of congress with bogus national emergencies and other lawless acts..forced to act not just for her party but to protect democracy. If the outcome is Uncle Joe 2020 but the government permanently destroyed or irreperably damaged - that's not an acceptable outcome.
Love how republicans, er, people on the right like to blame others for trump. In 2016, it was because "the Democrats ran Hillary." Not because republicans voted for trump overwhelmingly in the primaries. Not because republicans voted for him the general election. It was because, "the Democrats." And running into 2020, its now because "the Democrats may try to impeach trump". Meanwhile, his base will continue to vote for trump no matter what he says or does...
This and I think she’s smart to first try and use their investigative power to find out what the heck is being investigated in the other 14 investigations we know nothing about. We don’t even know what Bill Barr has ordered on those investigations that might impact what evidence is shared or leads to indictments (might be a better impeachment to start with if you can find interference which.. we all know he’ll do). It’s a matter of timing and hidden evidence. Not one person in congress has even seen his tax return yet for crying out loud. The Mueller report was more than enough but what was striking about it is his little it actually covered in areas we know are other areas of criminality. When or if she approves impeachment it will need to be made as a case to the American people for 2020. It’s not about whipping votes in the Senate. F-ing Joe Manchin won’t even vote to remove. It’s about presenting evidence to the American people and we are soo behind on the full evidence Congress needs to make that case. But I will say that if Congress ends up not at some point drafting articles of impeachment it will be a stain on our democracy and House Democrats will be looked as complicit in the future when History is written. Articles of Impeachment are a must for historical record of our Democracy.
A problem with delaying here is that each day of delay is another day that Mitch the Democracy Strangler has to shove a bunch of Trump stooges into the judicial branch for life - at some point, a Trump stooge (like the birther who just got put on the 9th circuit) will be picked out of a hat to referee a Trump-related dispute. And then our slide into authoritarian fake-ocracy will basically be complete when these diseased chickens come home to roost (these people will be doing damge long after Trump is gone, btw). Exactly. THIS IS NOT NORMAL no matter how much the @Os Trigonum of the universe copy paste the Federalist in an attempt to prove otherwise. Imagining a Trumpified version of the Obama administration illustrates how unforeseeably absurd our current situation is and how much we've become numb to it. We can't lose sight of how abnormal and unfit this all is - that's why we have things like Impeachment.
Flip a coin in the Midwest and Florida and you have as good a shot at being right. This idea that it is a foregone conclusion that Trump will be a one term President is dangerous.
Impeachment will not remove him with a Republican Senate. Voting in 20/20 will remove him at about the same time frame.
Most Republicans will vote for the Republican candidate, regardless. The argument is with very moderate Republicans and independents in a handful of states.
No I blame Republicans for nominating Trump and then Clinton for losing to Trump. I'll blame Democrats if they don't seize the moment. I'll blame Democrats if they manage to muddy this thing up to the point that he gets re-elected despite being wildly unpopular.
You think the complete erosion of the checks and balances against the Executive Branch is "dangerously awesome" now. How will you feel when someone that is very far to the left is elected President and follows the blue print of precedence set by Trump? I suspect you will be quite angry and claim that the President is over stepping his authority.
I respect his fight and tenacity against a democratic wall that’s much larger than the one he was trying to build at the boarder.
How is impeachment protecting democracy if it will have no bearing on what he does. How will impeachment stop government from being permanently destroyed? You have a totally unrealistic view of what impeachment can or would do.
If he gets reelected against a play it "safe" candidate like Uncle Joe, and the democrats do not impeach, again to play it "safe" on the intution that impeachement will just "fire up his base" - whatever that means - will you blame yourself (or at least, media voices/commentators who also preach this same intution)? Trump is making it so that the democrats have to impeach - this is not the trap of an evil super genius either, as if that needed to be said. It's just his own dumbassery.
I am not 100% sure, but impeachment might help Trump's reelection chance, which I am 100% against. I say do all the investigation you need, but just do not vote to impeach.
Generally? Ok I see you are just being delusional about what can actually be accomplished by impeachment. Why can't you actually answer the question asked?
It also might hurt his reelection chance. It also might have no effect. If it's the ethically, morally, legally right thing to do - and it seems like it is, there's not really a choice in view of the uncertainty above
