Kanter is about as effective as Capela against the Warriors so...

It’s not about Kanter needing to be an all-star per say. It’s about having a big body (who is not turning 37 years old) who can stop the layup drills and rebounding that Green and Looney were incessantly getting against us. Just wonder how much better Harden could have been if he wasn’t having to bust his arse trying to rebound and defend much bigger players.

He has already exceeded expectations and most importantly he is a serviceable back-up center who is cheap.

Wouldn't have made a difference vs Golden State if we had signed him

Disagree, I recommended Miles Leonard, D Jordan, or Kanter at the trade deadline as each were cheap backup C solutions. Keep in mind, other than Lillard and McCollum, Portland has no depth nor talent. We were one big man away with a coach who played the right reserves.

He ain't gonna be cheap this offseason. The Blazers will lose Kanter to free agency and Nurkic has a long way to go before he's back on the court again.

Lmao the idea that any of the players would have moved the needle, in any way, is laughable.

Having a big man that can’t defend the perimeter was not, and will never be, the solution.

What happened to Kanter????? According to OP he was the key to a championship formula.

@Senator what happened? Morey is so dumb for passing on Kanter, with him we would have won 0 games against GSW instead of 2.

how many more years is it going to take for people to realize big's who struggle in pnr's are always going to be unplayable vs GS. Like it shouldn't still be a surprise quite frankly. This is nothing new whatsoever and you should really question whether or not you know what you're watching, if after what 4/5 years worth of sample size. if you haven't realized it by now which is actually pretty late, you probably just don't get it

He would make a difference given how bad Capela played against the Warriors. But we would probably lose the series anyway.

    This aged badly.

But I still got to give it to Kanter he couldn't stay on the court vs the Warriors. But anyone who's knows basketball was confident that would happen.

Vs OKC I didn't think he'd be able to stay on the court but he proved me wrong and then vs Denver he was great, did an admirable job vs Jokic and abused Plumlee when he was out there.

After not getting minutes on the bottom team in the league. Very admirable.

How would Gasol or Kanter have helped?

They would be switched out on the perimeter.....

What we needed was 100% NOT a center. It was a long 3/4 type. They don't grow on trees though... how many Paskal Siakams are there in the NBA?

I mean you can't play Kanter vs GSW that's obvious.
Our best chance was last year with Ariza we needed a new Ariza and Moute. (Also current Ariza and Moute don't replace their younger healthier versions)

Edit: Oh we also need a Chris Paul replacement and no the current Chris Paul doesn't replace the younger version. Of himself. Also if the replacement can have less injury issues that would be good too.

Gasol and Kanter would have been unplayable vs. GSW. No lateral quickness, limited three point shooting. For folks who remember the infamous seven game OKC vs GSW series where GSW took a KD and Russ led team down, Kanter was basically benched due to his liabilities on the defensive end.

The one player who could have really helped us was Markieff Morris. He would have been great off the bench or in place of Capela as a tall PF who can space the floor and has a strong offensive game. He chose to get more minutes with OKC and got bounced in the first round. Nothing we can do about that.

    Kanter definitely could not play...

But Gasol is a tough minded player that can pass and shoot threes and a guy that has always played well against the Warriors. I think he could have helped, it's not like he slows our offense down with how we walk the ball up the court lol.

But we did not have the assets to get Gasol so it is a moot point. Getting him would mean likely losing a very valuable player.
