I honestly think he's written himself into a hole. He's not sure how to tie things all up for the ending, I remember him saying before that when he plots it's more about getting to an ending (Point A to point B to point C) so it's quite possible that he's lost the plot and has added far too many tertiary characters who now have to tie into the ending as well.

Also this is pretty unprecedented. Usually the source from an adapted story is already finished and completed. I wonder if all the theories and reveals and the reactions has influenced him. For example, if this was his planned ending or close to it and he's seeing the reaction...does he change it? To change it would mean rewriting.

It's not like he's stopped releasing books too, he's released a few books since then, he's just hung up on this one for some reason.

Spoiler warning. The real deity of GoT is revealed as shown by the astrolabe contraption we see in this scene.

    Clyde Drexler: "I agree."

There are a lot of subplots and characters in ASoIaF. Starting in Book 4, GRRM added Dorne (which had even more characters than the show touched upon, and even if sometimes superfluous, didn't suck the way the show did) and Griff (completely written out) etcetera etcetera. I do think he boxed himself in completely. Probably he looks at that DOS-program computer in his office, trying "to write your way out of this one, Joan Wilder", and just quits for the day: "F*********************."

So he has concentrated on other material more straightforward and released that, and been caught up until recent years in writing episodes for the show, that sort of thing. Then he suddenly realized: "Hey, wait, this show is going to pass me by."

I really hate that sub. Feels like everyone there is so negative. My wife still follows it and I've found that she will enjoy an episode when we first watch it, and then start talking about everything wrong with it after a couple days on freefolk. I'd rather just enjoy the show. Yeah it's not quite up to where it was in the earlier seasons, but I still think it's great.

Lol, yeah, the ancient tools of his craft do not help. He's stubbornly used a basic word program because he hates spellcheck...which I imagine is annoying if you're writing a book but someone should probably tell him that you can turn spell check off.

I have legitimately hated Dany from the beginning.

No experience other than Drogo dong, r****ded decision making, followed by screeching “I am the Queen of Dragons listen to me wah!” to any and everyone. Noooooooo thank you.

its really sad. In the books, she had the Sansa transformation, going from a whining weakling to a strong woman. She reminded me much like Cercei minus the vindictive nature. Emilia Clarke has presented the character terribly.

    Totally agreed.

I love Dany and her vulnerability in the books.

Watching last season rn and Dany lost dorne and highgarden like it was nothing.

This is a terrible losing streak.

She should roast half her advisers and feed that BBQ to the other half who's still alive

I’d much rather watch Tyrion, Vary’s, Littlefinger, Tywin, Ned, Jaime, Sandor, Barristan, Cersei, Arya etc deliver their lines, personally. In comparison, Dany makes me cringe, but there is still plenty of acting greatness to watch, despite the deteriorating writing.

If Tywin, Varys, Littlefinger and Tyrion don’t do it for you, I question your GOT’shood.

Sure i like the the other characters but Daenys arch has been imo the central thing driving the story.

She experienced brain aneurysms throughout the filming of the show, so it may not be entirely her fault.
