Officials at McGowan Cos., which says it's the largest underwriter of "active shooter" coverage, said they're having a tough time keeping up with hundreds of inquiries from schools and other customers such as local governments, shopping mall operators, senior care facilities and hotels. Hiscox Insurance also has seen an rise of interest in shooting coverage from schools.

"We are literally overwhelmed every day," said Thomas McGowan IV, CEO of McGowan Cos., adding that his company continues to add employees to address the demand for coverage. "Traditional insurance policies aren't intended to deal with mass shooter events."

    That's a bummer. I hope there is a minimal amount of suffering/destruction.

I'm not too old but everyone when I was growing up this kind of thing was not on anyone's radar. Columbine had happened but that seemed like such a crazy one-off thing. Now we see it every 30-90 days or so it seems.

What has changed so much? I mean the only thing I can really think of his social media... I, personally, don't think social media has been good for humanity for a variety of reasons with the negatives far outweighing the positives but the coinciding rise of social media and the rise between school shootings is pretty disturbing.

It's like it began with the rise of the internet 20 years ago.

Stop trying to take away law abiding citizens rights who have nothing to do with these incidents. Start by not giving the shooters any publicity and maximum punishments, meaning do not take them alive. It’s time to start setting a precedent, if you do this **** you die without pity or recognition.

Maybe law abiding citizens need to rethink gun control for modern America.

Your solution is essentially censure-ship and automatic death penalty....

I don’t agree with Mick Frys solution but I’d be interested in hearing some other solutions. What is your solution?

I’ve said it before but I cannot think of any politically tenable solutions when you have the 2nd amendment and a country with 500 million guns laying around. I think if a jackass wants to get one he will probably be able to do so. No matter what type of modest gun control measures are passed that we’ve seen put forward.

You're right, without amending the 2nd amendment there's no viable solutions. I think a federal only system for registering and monitoring is a prudent first step. However, the purpose isn't to prevent all mass shootings, that's just impossible. Violent crimes laws don't prevent all violent crimes, it's about risk management.

If you're only concerned with school shootings and ignore the dozens of deaths daily by firearms, you are absolutely correct. If someone wants to inflict harm, they are going to find a way.

I agree with you, if we can't stop every mass shooting, we should stop trying.

Well, I literally said none of that.

Perhaps you can go work on your reading comprehension and come back.

I don’t know that any of the politically viable solutions I’ve seen put forward would have prevented any of the more notorious mass shootings of the recent past.

So don’t even try? Or what....? School shootings are just the cost of doing business?

Maybe allow more litigation to hurt the pocket books of gun sellers, owners, and manufacturers; make sure they are paying their fair share considering the issue is with them.

I keep having to change the channel on the radio when I drive my younger one to preschool, because the lead story every other day now is "school shooting" and he hears it.

Sick ****ing ****, america. How did we get to this place?

Unfortunately, I think the mass shootings are a fact of life at this point. I find it hard to imagine a scenario where the federal government buys back or otherwise makes unlawful the nearly 400 million privately owned firearms in this country. I don't own a gun. I'm not a gun person. I'm just realistic. That is the reality of the situation. Guns aren't and won't be hard to come by in the United States in our lifetime. The modest but realistic gun reform proposals I've seen put forward won't stop mass shootings.

Feel free to continue the condescending T&P posts and whining though. That's helping.

Let me quote you: "’Ive said it before but I cannot think of any politically tenable solutions when you have the 2nd amendment"

There are MANY practical solutions that can reduce gun violence. None of them are going to come from the NRA or those who are resistant to gun law restrictions. If your only two suggestions is to repeal the 2nd amendment or expect gun owners to voluntarily give up rights, you are giving up. Some of you give the 2nd amendment way too much power.
