I don't get this ratings nonsense.

Warriors have been the most featured team in the playoffs the past 5 years. If the ratings are declining, then who is responsible?

You can't have it both ways.

Also, @Reeko is spot on about the NBA doing a terrible job promoting the rest of the contenders in the league. This is Vince McMahon levels of incompetence by Adam Silver.

As for the media, the reason they're all upset is because this series was meant to happen between the Warriors and the anointed Lakers, not the Rockets.

The media hates Houston no matter what.

We love to visit San Francisco and the area, the wine country, especially. The weather is a trip. I definitely can see the appeal, but I’ve never lived there. My parents went there without us kids every year or two for a week. Dad was stationed there long enough to fall in love with the place during WW2, and Mom managed to meet him there once. That’s all it took. I don’t “hate” the city, just the team and their coach. One of our kids is thinking of moving there. She’s a software developer that could afford it. At least we’d have a good reason to visit. Wouldn’t go to a basketball game, though, unless they were playing the Rockets. ;-)

What an exceptionally weak take. They should win because ratings?

Literally the only fathomable reason why ratings would be down is redundancy. Catering to big markets is one thing. Catering to one market is a big thing. Not only does it make the warrior’s chips frail AF (because their deck is so stacked it’s only news when they lose) it makes their opponents, aka basically everyone but Lebron less credible as opponents. And Lebron only derived credit from creating super teams himself. Tossing a mvp to Houston, Milwaukee, Oklahoma City isn’t enough.

Small markets? Why should people in small towns watch at all? They’ve got no skin in the game and they already know the outcome.

Fear. And why? Is the NBA not minting millionaires regularly? Are those poor owners ok? Adam Silver has been through tough times , holding checks?

Fear will have them swirling the drain, believing the Gilded State Warriors winning yet another rigged title will be the plug. You look me right in the eyes when you tell me “ratings” wouldn’t be better if viewers/fans felt like their teams had a legitimate shot.

I've always maintained that's it's simply a matter of location and inherent biases attached to that. If you went back in time and completely switched the cities of the two teams, the media would adore GSW Harden and piss on Houston Curry and friends.

This guy's an idiot in any city in any universe, though.

Who says they haven't already fixed it for GS to win like they did last year?

Warriors fans are mostly aspergers having tech dorks that look like this guy. Never played or watched sports but now that their local team got 5 all stars they suddenly feel like winners too.

The wine country is fun, but the question is, which one? I see the appeal of Napa, and recommend people visit Beringer and Robert Mondavi because they're good tours and you can find good, decent wine there, but Anderson Valley or the Russian River, or Dry Creek were more my speed. Napa is just so insanely touristy, and while the really good wines are really good, it's a place that you should go be poor somewhere else. Though SF is the same way.

I hope your child will be making a lot with their proposed job. At that, they'll still probably need roommate(s). It's a place that loves to talk a big game, tax everything, but never seems to manage to fix anything. The city was very pretty. I understand that's going away now.

Lot to do in the area though, and if you don't like things, just go drive two hours in a random direction. Drive two hours here, and you're still in Texas. Or W. Louisiana, same thing.

Plenty of bandwagoners with no ties to the bay area like the warriors. I see people wearing golden state **** out here in ABQ.

I think that reporter is right about the warriors being better for ratings than us. they have 5 all stars so they will be a better draw than any other team. however, he's wrong about the disinterest in the MIL/TOR, HOU/DEN conference finals. both would be very exciting series. Toronto has the whole country of Canada rooting for them and Giannis has the rest of the world rooting for him. it would be a HUGE international series for the NBA. meanwhile the rockets vs nuggets would actually be an exciting series since they can probably pull off a couple of wins against us while the warriors will almost definitely finish them off in 4-5.

Nothing attracts Eastern Seaboard TV eyeballs like Warriors - Nuggets 1030 ET start.
