Lol...that would completely be against what he is standing up for. Media isn’t entitled to a share of the team or success even if they cover that team. He’s completely correct and wish more people would call it out like Craig.
I've been saying this for months. If you listen to or read ANYTHING coming out of the Bay Area, it always has a tinge of entitlement and a glaring lack of awareness. Everything from that shithead Ethan Strauss to their version of the Locked On podcast has a whiny undertone where they expect the Warriors to basically crush everybody. And my God, whenever the Rockets come up, they can't help themselves from making unprofessional, hypocritical, snarky remarks regarding free throws and us being annoying. Bay Area media might be the least aware collective outside of Washington, DC. Keep doing God's work, Craig!!
I must be really slow. Can someone explain to me how Craig got "entitled" and "elitist" from that sarcastic tweet by Dieter? To me, just looks like Craig is throwing shade out of nowhere.
Open secret is out, the league knows the Warriors are a cash cow for the networks, and they’ll bend the rules to keep them there. It’s been so blatant that the audience conscience is being triggered. People are realizing that the talking heads aren’t their conscience. Poking people’s eyes, body slamming, groin kicks, undercutting a shooter, etc... sickening!
U don’t think insinuating that the league should fix this series in the Warriors’ favor because the playoff ratings are declining doesn’t sound entitled? Saying that the Rockets shouldn’t advance because they won’t bring in GS level ratings isn’t elitist?
The thing is though...the Warriors are NOT cash cows for the NBA. Ratings are down across the board because people are tired of them breaking the league. Stephen Curry as a figurehead may be perceived to be a cash cow for the NBA particularly in international parts like China where scrawny dabbing boys across the world can dream of themselves in an NBA game doing a blindfolded over-the-back half court shot going in the hoop over and over, just cuz Steph can do it. But just like Yao Ming when he was a Rocket...what does Steph's popularity have to do with the Warriors winning the championship year after year? The league is a giant masculine version of a soap opera. It demands drama, and if that's not from the constant annual churn of free agency innuendo then it's from this idea that any franchise if it's managed right can dream of a 3-5yr window towards a championship. If people start to realize that the league might be biased in propping up one champion at the expense of everyone else, that's hugely detrimental. The NBA is sorely in need of fresh blood. No one gets a rise out of haterade fans quite like the Rockets. There's 0% chance that we can form a dynasty, but as an Iron Sheik heel-turn champion during a transition year? Bring it on, NBA. We just wrote your script for you.
Craig didn’t seem to know that at 1st, and without knowing that, it comes off as what he described Are we also gonna act like he didn’t really mean that Silver should fix this series because of declining playoff ratings? GS media is always talking like the Warriors are God’s gift to basketball
He is being sarcastic, only in so far as he knows he is talking to Twitter, not Silver directly. But he really does believe that it would be a smart business move to artificially advance the Warriors for ratings. He is hiding behind his sarcastic framing in order to be passive aggressive about his beliefs. Are you seriously not able to differentiate his sarcastic framing, from his attempt at a serious point? It's quite obvious...
Nope. I don't have any context to believe that he seriously believes that. At least, not until I saw his other tweets.
Reading up on other tweets he made, and it appears hes framing his belief in a "sarcastic way" to hedge criticism, but absolutely believes it.
Are the ratings a struggle BECAUSE crap like favouring the Warriors happens? Houston vs Milwaukee would be a tremendous finals in terms of ratings. The 2 best players in the NBA going head to head. One of them is the season MVP, the other feels slighted and wants to win finals MVP. You're going to get great interest outside of Milwaukee and Houston in terms of viewers. Put the Warriors through and you get Milwaukee viewers and San Francisco viewers only, Nobody gives a crap about any other meta narrative, because there really isn't one. Just my opinion, I have no facts that back all the above up! lol.
