Can someone tell me what is his problem with time-outs? Has he ever made his feelings known about it? To me that's one of the signs he's just in the line of the likes of McHale. I just don't get it and want to know what's up.

The problem is there is nothing to be called out, like a play or a scheme. It’s give Harden the ball and let him dance and hope.

Sometimes I do wish we could let CP handle it a bit more. But then he has also gotten into the ISO business himself.

This is not just time out. It’s everything, philosophy, practice, the way approaching it. Works great in Italy and regular season I guess

We also saw what Paul isolation ball looks like now that he has declined. Almost cost us the series.

There’s plenty of reasons to call timeouts even when a coach does not believe in set plays that much. Stopping momentum, catch a breath, remind our guys to do so and so etc.

He had MJ, Shaq, Kobe and a system with set plays. This version of MDA’s offense is basically pick and roll, iso offense until you drop. Run by two PGs. Big difference.

The Triangle is a read-and-react offense that intended to conserve the energy of the stars. Not calling timeouts were intended to 1) mentally train the players to figure it out themselves and 2) keep the flow of the game go organically. Timeouts can benefit the defense more so than the offense, as it allows the defense to get set and review assignments. The triangle and the 7-seconds-or-less (or in the Rockets version of 23.7 seconds or less) offense plays to the creativity of its stars. A set play in the half-court offense would call for a timeout far more often. ...that being said, there are times D'Antoni should call timeout to remind them to not do stupid things like don't abandon the ball after the inbounds, shoot the ball before the shot clock expires, box out on the rebound, etc.

If this is such a big deal, surely there is data other than clutchfans conventional wisdom to support this.

Time-O (Outs), Cash-C (Considerations) and Lux -T (Luxury Tax Savings) are all cousins if I recall.

Tonight we could've used one, since Harden just continued to play 1-on-1 vs. Durant and we got away from what got us the lead. We tried to go for the homerun and that's not what we should do. We controlled the whole game by mixing it up and then the 4th comes around and we start just defending our lead.
