Ennis was big trash for about 90% of the time he was here, but in the weeks leading into the trade deadline, he was starting to show some signs that he was turning the corner. I wasn't happy with dumping his contract for tax avoidance because I thought he could help. I think I was right. I also thought Shump was a terrible acquisition at the time solely for LTS and I really hope he proves me wrong. He found his niche in Sacramento. His value is leadership. We obviously aren't utilizing that portion.

Agree. Didn’t Ariza say at some point that the Rockets didn’t even try to bring him back this year? Just because he signed for 15M doesn’t mean that’s what it would’ve taken. I can’t think of a worse chemistry experiment than subtracting an Ariza and adding a Carmelo. I mean, the adding Carmelo part is already a huge blow, but to think what you’re losing in the process just makes it mind boggling that the Rockets would think it was a good idea.

He may not have a choice, given James's extension kicking in next year. I guess they can let Shump leave, and try to dump Gordon for less money, and thereby scoot under the tax line, but it'll be challenging.

Napalm, I think Morey could have really surprised us, in a good way, if he was given free rein to spend. Call me cynical, but I treat news of things like the alleged abortive Miami trade like I do similar rumors from the Texans camp. IOW, prove it. Talk is cheap. Right now, so is Fertitta.

Damned if House's magic carriage hasn't turned into a pumpkin.

Naturally, you have some posts at CF saying as much, at the time the Rockets were getting rid of him, right? Fairly prescient if you did.

I certainly didn't think it was a bad decision at the time. I liked it, actually. I admit that I thought he was and would remain, hot garbage. And that House would be the 3 and D guy we needed on the wing. Boy, have I been wrong so far.

My initial response on the boards with regards to dumping Ennis, so yea I have receipts. apparently I thought iman would look better at times looking back at my posts but did not like the trade because we used a first. I did not believe he was a missing piece.

I didn't have any illusions about the Shumpert deal. IIRC, the trade was originally going to be for Alec something or other, and the Rockets would've saved X amount of dollars. Then the trade got amended to Shumpert, and it became X + 750k or so. And then there were all of these quotes from players about how much dog was in Shumpert, etc... Like he had intrinsic value beyond the cash savings...

EDIT, oh and I agree with you that dumping Knight's contract was getting rid of one of the few ways to improve the Rockets next year. Doubt they'll extend Shumpert now, and try for something similar either next year or the following one.

But if you really thought at the time that Ennis was turning it around, and it would therefore be a mistake to dump him? Kudos to you. I certainly didn't see it that way at all, and later playoffs play is making it look like you were definitely right.

Ennis made a bout 2 bone head plays a game that made you wonder how he got to the NBA, but I thought he was pretty good from the bench.
