The NFL isn't changing the PI call because of the lawsuit. That lawsuit did nothing for anyone other than the lawyers. Suing the NBA because the Rockets lost a game (yes, one that was affected by the refs but also by poor play of some it the players) is not grounds for a lawsuit. Unless you can find definitive proof that there was an effort to defraud you, the fan (and by extension, the Rockets), you have no grounds to sue.
While I'm sure there's some juicy criminal stuff under the surface in the NBA, I think the best you'd have would be some alleged breach of some clause in the overall contractual obligations between the owners and the league office. Something that probably would be ill-defined and easy to draw out into a years-long case with no clear victories. It would just make Houston look bad. And it's probably something that's more designed for internal conversation and resolutions since this is really an organization with 30 major stockholders. My preference would be to do this more Chicago-style. Well, a nicer, more legal, less-deadly version. Hire some P.I.s and dig up dirt on the worst offenders in this whole mess. It's there. Save it for a rainy day, and then, oh no, something sprang a leak on that rainy day.
I'm as pissed as any Rockets fan and yet realize lawsuits are an EXTREME last resort. At the end of the day, I just want officiating to be transparent and to improve. That's it.
