Count me in as disappointed. Setting Cercei up as the final baddie is just boring. She should have been dead a long time ago.

The white walker story is pretty significant in the grand scheme of the story. A simple 'stick them with the pointy end' to solve the whole army of the undead was massively underwhelming. Why did we have an entire episode (2) dedicated to all those who were suppose to die ... only to find out nobody important died. We could have deleted episode 2 and cut out half of the silly TWD battle and missed absolutely nothing. The Night King capturing Viserion had no impact outside of bringing down the wall.

I have little faith the remainder of the episodes will be much better.

Another plot hole is apparently wights can break through stone crypts but a wooden box is a perfect containment vessel.

That was lame but you pretty much knew it was going to happen.

This is what happens when you don't have anymore source material. The classic common TV tropes start to seep back in. shrug* It is what it is I guess. I'm just glad Grey Worm and Missandei are still alive.

Everyone seems to be enamored with these damn Dragons. I want to see more Ghost. HBO needs to stop splurging on these flying lizards and put some respect on Ghost's name. Every time I see him it's a victory better than defeating the Night King.

I can tell you exactly how this was pitched. Someone had a cool idea to have swords on fire that would slowly keep dying out in the distance to give the beginning a spooky and ominous feeling, and they were willing to sacrifice the dothroki for that shot. Have to admit that I thought it look pretty cool. But, as military strategy goes when you're outnumbered and on the defensive just fortify your position and let them come to you.

Arya is like Damian in a lot of ways.

Battle skills from 0 to 100 in a few years.

We knew the Dothraki's battle tactics are more brawn than brains. They did not have to sacrifice them so early on to make a point that NK army is at a vast advantage.

    Or did they?

    Am I enjoying watching?

    Yes. Absolutely.

Is the script writing hilarious and cliched and frankly stupid?

    Yes. Absolutely.

But the internet afterward is totally worth it. Memes are 10/10 already and only getting better.

The strategy was trash to begin with for dramatic affect. All the Dothraki were sacrificed. The unsullied were getting ate up AND THEN Dany an Jon come in with their dragons? They could have at least set fire to the dead army before anyone was lost. I don't care how good they thought the Night Kings javelin throwing was.

I was wondering if they could direct that smoke fog thing come to the defenders rather than running towards and into it.

I was like thinking of that smoke monster in Lost.

Yeah, 3 minutes of Danny and Jon riding in the snow and fog and getting lost was taxing.

Were we supposed to know NK had that kind of power? At first I thought Dany and Jon had bad luck flying into a blizzard; winter had come after all. No meteorological maesters at the Citadel?

I know, it's 78 minutes and the longest episode of TV history or whatever but I still felt the boys and girls were overrun easily.

I mean that is more than half of Westeros or more plus some vast armies of foreigners.

Wights were way too powerful while NK's generals stood there like monuments, doing exactly nothing.

Yeah, whoever devised their defensive strategy should be burned alive. They basically did it completely backwards, at least according to all the medieval literature and movies I've seen.

    1. Moats and obstacles at distance to slow up the zombies and create bottlenecks and killing zones
    2. Pound bunched up zombies with artillery (that they had in front of their infantry?? and apparently used once and then forgot about) and dragons
    3. Infantry to defend breaches in the moats and obstacles, with room to fall back as needed
    4. Cavalry in reserve to attack flanks
    5. Final ring of obstacles closer to the castle, preferably pitch-type stuff that you can set on fire, to slow up zombies & let archers pound them
    6. Lots of oil to drop on the zombies from the walls. They needed more fire.

Good point, now that you mention it. I was hoping to see some of the big good guys face off with some of the big bad guys. That would have been crazy sweet. Oh well.

When the zombies rolled into Hardhome, there was an accompanying fog-blizzard type thing, iirc.
