Jon is the most useless character in the show

I mean, he was responsible for putting together the whole alliance and what not.

She knew. Watching again...When she saw Arya and just stared at her, she had seen it.

If they still have two dragons I really don't see Cersei being much of a threat. Still not sure if one died or not. They need episode 4 to be a rehash of what happened during the battle.

After Jorah saved Danny and was dying I was hoping that she would at least give him a kiss or quick handy before he died. Would have been the perfect ending for him.

More like deus ex mach-Arya, am I right?

I’m underwhelmed. As a battle, the parts I could see were great. The scene of the Dothraki’s swords being snuffed out was well done and Lyanna’s scenes with the giant were epic. But, if I were on the crew who spent 55 nights filming, I’d be disappointed that the end product was so difficult to see.

But, what was the point of all of that? I swear, if the only explanation we ever get regarding the Night King’s motivations was Bran saying “He wants to destroy the world’s history,” that will be severely disappointing. The white walkers have been a looming specter of evil for years and we don’t get to learn why they were marching south? Bran better have been warging somewhere interesting for the past hour because we need him to shed some light on stuff.

I guess Daenerys and Jon will get an army from somewhere now because, on the surface, it looks like Cersei’s plot worked. She didn’t participate in the fight against the dead and has a full army by her side. But, this show has been employing out-of-left-field solutions to problems for a while, so I’m sure the Targaryen army will materialize next week.

The show used one of the worst tropes in film. Someone sneaks up on another person simply because they are off camera. Terrible.

EDIT: realizing now she likely put on a blue eyed face to sneak up on him (i.e. what Melisandre was hinting at when they talked). But that wasn't shown well at all.

I read it 10 minutes before the episode and was waiting for it the whole time. Definitely took something away especially after reading how shocked everyone was.

Dude is a total loser. There’s no way people who do **** like this have a good life. I feel bad for him at the same time.

Was he among the first to watch it, or did it leak in advance?

Same here. When they slowed everything down at the end with the dramatic music, I kept thinking to myself, "where the hell is Arya? I know shes gonna show up somewhere."

I think the episode was done that way to show the effects the Night King had on everyone's vision. Was disappointed by the battle tactics in this episode.

Hey undead army. Here's an extra 60,000 horse riders to convert and add to your existing arsenal. From a cinematic perspective watching the flames disappear so abruptly was cool, but I would have had them go out better than they did. I mean this is the army that was prophesied to take over the whole GoT world if Dany's kid survived and they were defeated inside of a minute on the battlefield. Seems like it does a total disservice to their lore that was built up in season 1 all for a cool cinematic sequence of watching the flames disappear.

Was also hoping they'd use more oil and trap holes on the battle front to slow down the army of the dead. Would think putting flammable black tar all around the open field leading up to Winterfell would make for a cool cinematic. Seems like a clever Tyrion tactic that was never used. Also could have made it seem like a condition soldiers on the battlefield were aware of if they did die. Their bodies would be put to flames to avoid being turned into the dead army. Another good opportunity for some cool pyrotechnics that they could have opted for.

Part of me hopes the Night King comes back in some way although that seems unlikely. At the very least, I would like some backstory on him. Was he immune to fire because that's a power of the Night King? Or is it because he was a Targaryan and real dragons don't burn to fire like Dany has demonstrated.

I have no idea, I was watching the Stros game first so I was avoiding this thread anyway.

I agree about the “what was that all about” with “the others” plot. It felt too much like a Lord of the Rings final battle which is still amazing as a thing but not that you expect from the build up of their origins and complexity as what was built up to be a potential 3 dimensional character who turned out to be much more 1 dimensional.

I feel like the answer now are more for fans to figure out on their own which is fine but there could have been more nuggets thrown out there to leave a bread crumb trail to converse about.

I think the episode was pure popcorn and people just have to accept that for what it is and enjoy it. But of course it always keeps you wanting more.

And the lighting complaint is something the show has had going on since season 3 I think. Most people should have been prepared for it. I get it... but it is what it is. The simple explanation is the lighting probably helps cover up a lot of the cgi challenges. It’s TV... not a Marvel Disney movie. It’s a massive achievement to even have a battle to begin with.

Both Dragons are alive. In next week's trailer, there is a quick scene that shows two dragons flying in the background in the sky. Also a scene where a greenish colored dragon is flying over water (we know that's Rhaegal). The dragon that came by Dany to comfort her was purplish/red and that's Drogon.

What about Ghost? He just ran in with the Dothroki but didn't come back. Hopefully he got to the undead and was like F**k this! And just ran off somewhere..

i think it would have been hilarious/crushing if she said "i love you...like a brother" as he was dying. friend-zoned till the end.

episode was super-suspenseful because i kept waiting for key characters to get killed and besides jorah, none really did. kind of surprised about that. i figured we would loose a handful of them tonight.

i noticed that when bran warged into the ravens and caught up with the night king that is when the knight king raised his arm and seemed to give the walkers the command to throw themselves onto the fire-line and create a bridge for others to cross. did bran give the night king that idea? was he controlling the night king all along? i feel like somethings going on there...as hank hill would say, that boy aint right. we never saw what bran did after catching up to the night king...very suspicious.

and dothroki riding into the front-line was pretty dumb and pointless.
