Pretty much, yeah. There’s no doubt that somebody more talented (way more talented) was available, but screw it I love this pick. He’s a special teams demon, but I can’t imagine what position he’ll play otherwise. And no, I don’t think anyone else was going to draft him. It’s a head scratcher but it’s ****ing awesome!
For anyone that's not an Aggie's fan, it's the ****-smelling bookend on what may be the worst draft in team history.* Hell, Howard might as well wear "Not Dillard" instead of "Howard" across the back of his jersey. I think fans will always think this, unless Howard works his butt off to be a better pro than Dillard. *I reserve the right to be proven wrong.
At least they're admitting they need a FB. I was shocked they didn't go out and get one or bring Prosch back when the running game was struggling down the stretch. I hope he's good.
I’m guessing they’re going to give him a shot at fullback. He can play linebacker, he’s great on special teams, he’s a great character guy, but like I said before I’m not crystal clear on what their plans are for him either. He’s a good football player, I guess they’re just going to try to develop him into something that fits somewhere. I’m curious to hear their thought process too.
He'll be the designated "Special Teams firer upper' for the August work outs. That guy that screams all the positive exhortations when every one else is too hot and tired to keep running kick-off drills.
Gillaspia is likely a lock to make the team as a ST only player. Gaines also mentioned that Gillaspia had pass catching skills, so maybe some time as a third down back. ETA: This is what it looks like when you draft for your ST. Fans will not be happy, since they only look at players in a non-ST context. Gillaspia is FB, which the Texans will need less than 10% of the offensive sets. Given the craptastic OL, Gillaspia may be brought in as a third, passing down blocking back, which will not make any highlight films. Gillaspia should be on the field 100% of the ST time. Again, no highlight films.
It's like they were trying to sell tickets to Aggies. Maybe there was an unspoken agreement for the Bills to get Jackson?
Emmanuel Hall available (100th percentile SPARQ) and they draft "Rudy." **** those Trump-loving trash McNairs.
So last year we didn't carry a FB because we cut the one we had less than 12 months after giving him a contract extension and they turn around and draft one a year later. What are they really doing ?
This is the issue I have with the pick. Sure it’s a 7th rounder so really who cares but unless you really think someone else was gonna draft him, you have to look elsewhere.
Quote from Gillaspia: “In the fifth or sixth round the Jaguars called me and said that they would’ve picked me, but management were waiting for the seventh round. The Chargers and Raiders also told me they were interested in the seventh round.” So if that is true, he probably wouldn’t have been available as an undrafted free agent after all.
So someone from the Jags called in the middle of the draft and said we would’ve picked you just now but guys actually in charge wouldn't let me? Obviously I have no idea what actually happened but this sounds weird.
