Was there another higher rated OT that was available that people here are upset about? The line is the #1 need by far isn't it

Ya that would have been great. So you’re sure they didn’t try? I mean it’s not like you can just say “I’m trading back!” and it happens.

And then what happens if you trade back and then get jumped again by another team for the guy you wanted?

Most online stuff had several OTs rated higher, but those rankings are pretty worthless

Lol, is it just me or does it seem the room's mood isn't as "hyped" in getting their guy? It's like Gaine is trying to convince the room this was a good pick.

After having a night to sleep over PHI screwing us in drafting Andre Dillard, have to say I still feel bleh. However, there's still a lot we don't know about what went on in the war room during that pick.

    1. We don't know how close they rated Dillard vs Howard.
    2. We don't know if Baltimore called the Texans to counter PHI.
    3. We don't know the asking price, we can only guess based on position points.

Let's see what happens tonight, and hopefully, we all will feel better with our selections.

I agree completely. Their facial expressions and body language are not exactly showing celebration.

    I guess their choice was:
    1) Get heat for reaching to select a third round talent in Round 1
    OR
    2) Get heat for not taking an O-lineman in Round 1

    And they chose #1.

Was it a real meeting? Or was it just a made up speech for the cameras?

LOL, if that was a planned speech for the cameras, and that was the room's reaction, haha oh lord help us all. At least look happy with the pick.

Almost all of the "analysts" had a number of OTs rated higher and were still available.

Nobody knows what went on in there. You dont and i sure as hell dont, but I do know that a few teams traded back into the 1st after our pick and that alone gives me reason to believe it couldve been done.

If several teams honed in on us going for a OT, and we traded back that wouldve gave them the idea that at least were not gonna just take a pick to a take a pick. 3 round deep draft leaves us a lot of options if we traded back, or at least the idea of it. So, if they wouldve jumped us, so be it, they had no clue where we were going with Dillard gone.

Probably could have traded back to get Tytus, but I assume Gaine valued that 5th year option over gaining more draft capital.

I'm ok with the pick. What worries me is the Texans haven't flopped on a 1st rounder in awhile. We all know that wont last.

My biggest problem with the pick is this. Your 1st rounder should be expected to start. Can anyone here honestly say that they expect Howard to beat out the linemen that we have now?

    Kevin Johnson.

That being said, Rick Smith is no longer here. He was the 1st round drafter, not Gaine. Ill give the benefit of the doubt to Gaine with his resume last year at drafting but we need to drop the whole "this organization drafts 1st rounders well" saying. Different drafter, different regime.

Thats a loaded question. Its not gonna be hard to beat our guys out at any position on the OL.

Well to be fair, Kevin Johnson in college stayed awake and looked like a 1st rounder.

Look, all of us are going based on what we read, what we saw in live action games, and that's probably it. We don't have the information that the NFL teams have and why they make their choices. We all look at the board and see someone that has been hyped or rated a top pick falling so we say that's the MAN. But the truth is we don't know anything. Why did all those big names drop, why are all the so called experts really wrong on how the draft goes or where people have others valued. Looking at some of these rankings and where they are getting drafted, it's obvious the GM's and scouts have a lot more info than any of these analysts that are trying to do a mock draft.

Bottom line I don't think a single one of us is qualified to say if this is a good or bad move until the games are played and he gets a chance to prove himself. I for one had 0 interest in JJ Watt and that turned out fine. I used to make fun of Kareem Jackson for falling on almost every other assignment for a couple years, then he turned into a solid player.

For every "sure fire pick" that goes in the top 10 that bust out, there are a lot of success stories of guys that get drafted where they shouldn't and end up being key cogs.
