Apologies if someone has mentioned this (I scrolled past some posts), but is there really NO ONE in Winterfell who might pause and say, "Hmn. Army of the Dead approaching. Lots of dead in the crypts. Maybe not so safe? We can burn what's left of the bodies there, as bad as it will seem, so they can't rise against us?" I mean, no one? Hell, they've been telegraphing "crypts crypts" the entire first two episodes.
Very sloppy writing by the producers. They write some decent funny lines, and come up with BIG MONEY SHOTS, and sketch in-between those money shots very poorly. "Here, Bronn in your gratuitous hooker scene, take this crossbow and kill Tyrion or Jaime if they live to make it here to King's Landing." Watch him kill Qyburn instead. If the Hound lives Winterfell to fight his brother, then you can raise your "fan servicing" comment to the third power.
The showrunners have the general outline of what George RR Martin was planning and are, for the most part, following it. Some things were condensed and some bits excised completely, for time-sake. But I think you can pretty well rest assured that the guys that "win" hasn't changed between show and book.
I think it will be bad writing if something DOES come from the crypts. We literally saw a wight perfectly contained by a wooden box with chains on a trip from the wall all the way down to King's Landing. If centuries old corpses can suddenly work their way through what looks like concrete and rock, it wouldn't exactly be internally consistent. I think the real catch is going to be once the dead get down into the crypts, there will be nowhere to run. There doesn't exactly seem to be multiple entrances and exits to that area.
What are you guys worried about with the dead in the crypt for? Dont yall know the little girl with the bowl of soup is down there cause she volunteered to protect the women and children.
Also, can Night King raise any dead... or just the dead he or his his army has killed? Asking for a (dead) friend.
Good question, one I can not answer but would venture to say no to just any dead. If he were able to hed have an army across the globe already.
And neither Littlefinger nor Tywin Lannister can show up Deus ex machine style to rescue anyone (not that the latter would have anyway). That's a good point about "contained by a wooden box". Part of the lazy writing, though, is that someone would have mentioned the fear of the Walking Dead from the crypts: Whomever: "No, they wouldn't be able to get out of their coffins. But if you should see Lyanna Stark coming toward you, by all means, run." Sam: "Don't you mean 'Lyanna Targaryen'?" Whomever: "What's that, Sam?" Jon/Aegon: "Sam, shut the **** up."
Jamie or Tryion going to get killed and raised as white walkers and then go off and kill Cersei to fulfill Maggy the Frog's prophecy....Just thinking out loud here.
He can raise any dead. The wildlings burned all of their dead for just that reason. It was referenced after the battle between the Night's Watch and the WIldlings that if they didn't burn the dead they'd come back.
Lord Glover can ride in at the last minute! They are encased in concrete/granite/marble or whatever it is AND they have swords on them. If the dead can get out of those tombs it will be silliness, but wouldn't shock me. I lean more towards the idea that the dead can get INTO the crypts and kill everyone.
I'd like to see Tyrion raping her first before Jamie put a dagger on her pregnant baby. that sounds bad.
I mean, I figure they have to be some sort of fresh dead. Not just like a pile of bones that he can resurrect.
Yeah it's not clear what state of decay they need to be in. It would be pretty lame if they could be nearly dust and he could turn them into the living. That said, weren't some of the dead that chased Bran and Hodor pretty much skeletons? I don't recall.
There were also the skeletons that popped out of the ground and killed Jojen when they arrived at the Three-Eyed Raven. So I'm unclear how those were raised, but the Night King wasn't anywhere near Bran at that point to resurrect them.
