It is mild in offense, but still can be considered offensive......

    From an online article:

It's originally a slang term, derived from the older British slang of "bird" for a woman. (Thus, young woman = "chick".) It was almost invariably used between men, with the "bird" being a form of quarry to be hunted, and the term still has that connotation.

I don't think you are intentionally being offensive Deck, but referring to women as "Chicks" can be considered offensive.

Don't be upset, I got a lesson the other day in saying, I felt Jipped on an experience, and how that related to Gypsies.....but that is another story.

I get it. Thanks, DD. It's weird when something used in an entirely innocent way becomes politically incorrect. Our two adult kids, in their 20's, probably think a lot of my language is weird, but never had the nerve to say anything to their Dad, I guess. Heck, I watched Blade Runner with the two of them a few months back, somehow for the first time (I've seen it over a dozen times), and they were shocked at my character's "abuse" of Rachael in the apartment when they kiss for the first time. I was very surprised! Time marches on.

This is why Burke is better than all the other color commentators. Everyone else (Reggie, Weber, JVG, Mark Jackson) cannot stop themselves from saying "I love..." or "I hate it when..." about every little thing, as if hearing their personal opinion is a big part of our (the listeners) game experience. Burke has by far the smallest ego of all of them. She expresses admiration for great plays and great players and doesn't constantly inject her opinions of how things should be done.

She was rooting against us last night. But I don't think it's a systematic Rockets hate like Shaq but rather a Hubie-esque "root for the underdog". Especially if she is hoping to call more games in a prolonged series. Now it's all but over.

she was pretty complimentary about the rockets and harden. national announcers won't have rockets bias like our hometown guys. if she sounded more excited when the jazz got going than when the rockets made plays it probably reflects the national interest of seeing the underdog win, or a boring series turn into a real series. who would be excited for 4 blowouts in a row?

the only times broadcasters were seriously slant against the rockets were: (a) local broadcast teams on leaguepass, which is to be expected, ESPN opinion shows, the TNT crew except for jet.

I was looking for some more coverage to read, or listen to, about game 3 and actually looked at a site I normally pass by with disdain, Dreamshake. They had a point by point list of things the author (whoever he was) had apparently made of keys for the Jazz before game 3.

One was titled, "Be physical, all the time. Whine incessantly if called for even the most obvious foul. Like a tackle." The author checked that off as "done. (and done and done)" He or she made a list of folks whining, primarily Jazz players and their coach. Example? (Our Aussie friends may have mixed feelings about this) "Joe Ingles is now The Whingeing Wallaby (edited for antipodes), or The Argumentative Aussie, to me. He made early career Chris Paul seem reserved and stately. I kind of liked Joe before tonight."

I agree about Ingles. He was insufferable. What jumped out at me, however, was this nugget: "Doris Burke whined about the Rockets getting any calls when she wasn’t outright cheering for Utah."

This should be taken with a grain of salt, it being from Dreamshake, but it did make me feel better about what was probably an overreaction to Ms. Burke's coverage of the game on my part. If the same pair cover tonight's game, I hope they do a better job. It would not take a great deal of effort on their part to be better, considering their work doing the last game. That's all I've got.

Go for the juggler! Strangle the Jazz! Finish the sweep!

I have noticed non-Rockets fans online complaining that she had a clear bias against the Rockets in that game, so it's not just the people here, at least...

I've been a sucker for most of this series watching the national broadcasts on reddit....I didn't realize we had a local broadcast. Watched ATT feed last game....it was nice hearing our broadcasters again.

My issue wasn't her bias, it was just annoying irrelevant monotony. She has her moments but this game was not one of them.

Going even further than the good point you already make ..., playing in Utah definitely influences that .

It's hard not to get excited when you are in that situation and every good jazz play is followed by a huge roar .

If you watched Root Sports you could listen to our own announcers. The choice is yours

great point. its an exciting environment. when its a close game it gets exciting. no one but us are happy with 4 blowouts in a row. if anyone detected some excitement from the announcers when the score/series get close its just because that IS exciting. its not against the rockets.

That was the main thing she did that drove me crazy. If she does tonight's game, I hope she calms down.

I feel a little bit differently about this. I think if Doris was a man, you would not have seen such a strong defense of her. Durvasa in particular appeared insulted that anyone would criticize Doris (I am not being critical of you Durvasa at all).

Look, by and large, we are a bunch of fans who take the time (some of us a lot of time) to read all of these posts and love this site and the Rockets. Like a lot of fans, we get ticked when we feel like someone is being unfair to the Rockets or one of its players.

Doris' comments ticked some of us off. But, I don't think it had anything to do with her being a woman. We slam people when we feel like they unfairly attack the Rockets -- whether it is pros who are offering opinions or even other long time posters here -- man or woman.

Another poster made a great point re: "di%k"

Some of the posts may not have not met today's version of politically correct speech, but the idea that those posters were engaged in misogyny is bs imo.
