Isn’t this ground for impeachment? Directing gov agency to break the law, then pardon them if they get caught. Congress should call up witnesses under oath to confirm if this is true.

You have a habit of making these sorts of wide pronouncements as if you could POSSIBLY know what law enforcement...a huge multi faceted and complex set of different agencies, leadership, and seperate enforcement responsibilities.....collectively think.

You don't. Nobody does. Nobody possibly could.

    Just stop.

I wish he would tell us the reason law enforcement officials don't want a flood of illegals in their city. Do tell.

    From the story.
"Trump reportedly made the comment during a visit to the border at Calexico, California, a week ago. It was not clear if the comment was a joke."

Obviously could have been a joke. Nothing burger CNN BS meant to get reactionaries in a tizzy.

My qualifier is "major cities" and yes most major cities are "sanctuary cities" and yes in pretty much all those cases the local law enforcement desires it. Why?

Because it makes their jobs easier.

    https://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-...-cities-immigration-crime-20170306-story.html

    https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/8/18/16130954/police-sanctuary-cities

    https://thehill.com/blogs/congress-...nctuary-cities-lets-listen-to-law-enforcement

The vast majority of the time "sanctuary" policies are enacted, it isn't the "snowflake libtard" city leaders that demand the designation, it's the actual law enforcement entities that want it.

What Trump and the right wing does is find local law enforcement officers from small towns and rural areas where there are hardly any immigrants in general in their jurisdiction and don't face the same issues as major cities claiming how sanctuary cities are horrible.

Suggestion. Maybe the manager of the world's largest bureaucracy and commander of the world's most powerful military probably shouldn't do dead pan "jokes" about policy especially when the individual is known for "novel" ideas.

Its part of trump's way of testing his most horrific ideas. First he says it, then his people defend it as a joke (e.g. his call out to russia to provide hacked Hillary emails to him) or misstatement and then later he says its a fake media lie that he said it.

Don't tell me, tell Trump. I am not his suggestion box. Write the white house.

And I agree, it wouldn't be a good idea to make such a joke, but the guy is the type to say whatever the hell he wants. He was probably serious actually, but good luck proving it.

    Not something to joke about.

Congress should investigate and establish if this was true and put it into official record. I know impeachment is not possible, but establish if was said. Trump can claim that it's a joke if he want. It's then up to the voters to decide in 2020. Once established, the voter can decide if they want someone that clearly abuse power of the executive branch, or a Joker running the executive branch?

Under normal situation, most voter would said heck no to either of those. But of course, we aren't under normal situation and probably 30% of the American public is A-ok with either of those. I assume you are in that 30%.

You assume a lot, which is why you are usually a reactionary and wrong on most things.

Congress can't prove he wasn't joking genius. It would be a waste of money and time. Move on and stop wasting people's time. I consider this a dead issue unless there is solid evidence.

    You are projecting.

In the void of complete info, I do assume and I'm well aware of them when I do. And when I do, I try to state it to make it clear that it's an assumption. Of course I can be wrong as that's the nature of an assumption. And if I'm wrong about my assumption here, I apologize or correct them.

So, let's clear up any assumption here. Let me ask you straight. If what's reported of Trump is true:
    (a) are you ok with that if it was not a joke?
    (b) are you ok with that if it was a joke?

Depends on if a law is specifically broken. Let the lawyers handle this one and let our legal system handle any such misdeeds. I honestly have better things to care about.

So now we have people from CONGO trying to come in. Would hate to let someone with Ebola come into the U.S.

I'll preface by saying I don't want to see this happen. But, I do think it is a clever gambit.

You need to set the trap first. Prosecute the head of CBP for something (preferably something he is guilty of), wait for Trump to pardon him, and then impeach on abuse of power.

If someone caught Ebola in Congo and then went to Mexico, he'd be dead before he reached the US border.

Yes but he could bring an outbreak to migrant camps... and then... just hope that doesn't happen.

Spreading ebola to other countries would be bad regardless of which ones. Forget about migrant camps, what about the airplane, and the airport, and the bus, etc? If they aren't screening well over there, it's going to be a big problem for everybody.

I just want Congress to establish facts first. This trapping shouldn't be a "trap" at all, but a normal course of action if someone from the admin do an illegal act. But you don't wait for that to happen to actually do something if you have info that direction was given to act that way. If and once established, it's already an abuse of power from the President, just one that maybe his people aren't willing to carry out... YET.
