Newest media narrative? Rockets fans are the most annoying

It's always hilarious to me when folks compare the losing side in a debate to the winning side, and then wonder why the former isn't as "classy" as the winner. Gee, I wonder why?

I've seen a number of national types contrasting Rockets and Bucks fans regarding the MVP vote. Well, since it's obvious Giannis is going to win, of course the fan base with the winning player will have more friendly interactions with the national media. Harden was also on the losing side of the last two MVP debates (2015 vs. Curry, 2017 vs. Russ).

Basically, in the last five years, we've had two runaway MVPs (2016 Curry, 2018 Harden) and three relatively close contests, at least on the merits. Of course fans of the player who loses the debates (especially if it happens multiple times, as it has in this case) are going to be more chippy than, say, Charlotte Hornets fans. Or fans of the player who is obviously going to win.

And that's just within the scope of MVP voting. You could extend it even further with some of the narratives regarding Harden and free throws, defense, playoff performance, etc. If another team's star player isn't put through the ringer like that, then it's an apples to oranges comparison.

99% of the time, the "XXX fans are the worst" narratives are a deflection because the person pushing it would rather go for an ad hominem DQ than seriously discuss the issue at hand. It's lazy and annoying. I'm not saying they have to view Rockets fans as their favorites, but it's absolutely silly to compare them to other fan bases that aren't in similar situations.

 

it's not just the losing of 3 close votes, it's the ridiculous bullshit lies and distorted facts repeatedly presented by media whores to tear down harden's season. one of the best ones i've heard/seen is "harden still has to do it in the postseason". when of course 1) it's a regular fuking season award and 2) giannis has yet to win a playoff series and in fact was embaressingly left wide open on the perimeter the entire last series he was in

 

Right, and I agree with you on that completely. I'm just saying, even if they try and paint it in as positive a light as possible (how the national media handles Harden), it's still asinine to expect fans in Houston's position to be as calm as other fans who don't have anything remotely similar at stake.

I'm 100% with you, don't get me wrong. Just pointing out that even if you give them as much benefit of the doubt as possible, it's still not reasonable to compare the Houston fan base to others.

 

Rockets fans are really put in an uncomfortable position. Stuck in the middle of being a fan of a great team, but "not great enough." That has to be one of the most frustrating positions to be in, and the Rockets have been in that position since the 2013-2014 season with last season being the closest to actually winning.

I'm quite sure if social media existed in to this extent 10 years ago then fans of teams like the Suns and Mavericks would be just as annoying.

Annoying for lack of better words. In fact, we're not annoying. We're actually the opposite. We're annoyed. We want James Harden to be recognized as one of the greatest players in the league WITHOUT it being a backhanded compliment. "He's great, BUT - "

So annoying.

 

Harden's numbers are in the books. They're not gonna be erased. He's got the respect of his peers. I will get no satisfaction if Harden wins MVP and the Rockets lose in the second round. None.

 

The other point is: harping on MVP can kind of have some slight effect on the voting outcome, while harping on beating GSW has no effect on the outcome and is totally useless.

 

bro i'm not talkin bout you and me. in about a month's time harden is gonna be sittin on a dock w/ nothin in his hand but a fukin fishin pole. at least for the history he created the past 6 months would have been nice for him to get another trophy out of it

Rockets fans just want the media to stop disrespecting their star player repeatedly. This dude’s legacy is on the line, and they can’t be bothered to even recognize basic facts about his game. We still hear about ball hogging and bad defense. It’s just sad man.

Rockets fans are annoying, and I'm one of them. Deal with it.

Pretty much all fans are annoying.

 

I guess we have to distinguish, man.

Fact is this is a Harden centric team as it should be.

Fans of the team love him. Sometimes more than the other players who are going to support him and whom upon success is also dependent on.

But I would suggest that fans should care about the whole team, even if the ball is mostly in 3 to 4 player's hands all the time (Being in JH, CP, EGo and sometimes Rivers' Hands)

We should be grateful for Harden's numbers and as I said without his 40 pt, 50-60 pt Performances this team would not have HC advantage.

But it is still the Rockets and not Ballclub Harden and Chris.

Individual awards should not precede team achievements.

that was my thought this whole time, Harden being an adidas guy. Adam Silver showed his hand last year in the western confernce finals in game 6 and game 7. Lets just say by some miracle chance we are beating the warriors in a series this year. Silver will make sure we dont cross the finish line. Hardens MVP this year is just something to take away from a season where we know the warriors or adam silvers new toy giannis will win the finals

Rockets fans annoying? I'd have to say its pretty obvious to anybody who spends any amount of time on CF...

Obviously I dont mean you... but you know... those other people that are constant pains on the site...
