From what i have heard, he consummated a super secret deal with the NBA and received a boatload of settlement money.

What's crazy is how much more stock people put into D-Mo over Clint Capela based on potential alone.

Both were drafted within the 20-25 range of their respective drafts and each had a specific set of skills. One (D-Mo) was a bit more polished offensively than defensively (Capela) but it goes to show you how much skill refinement and hard work pays off.

One player signed 5 year $90 million extension while the other has been relegated to playing overseas and what will most likely be signed for next to near the veteran's minimum salary just to get his NBA career jump started once again.

    Sad.

Actually DMo did sign like 4 years 30m, and then the NBA disallowed the deal over technicalities.......leading him to sue, get a settlement and go to China.

    :)

    But yeah, Capela is better.

Tall white boys with a sliver of talent and see starting minutes generally get overpaid.

Donuts is the exception, and it's largely his fault.

He was a fantastic talent but didnt have the luck healthwise and otherwise, you need luck in life to succeed. A lot of luck.

The story of dmo is a long and convoluted one .... but the "it's largely his fault " bit is absolutely true .

We can debate if his agent screwed him , but it was still his choice to hire that agent .

But injury also royally ****ed him over.

There is no telling how good dmo would have gotten if he had not gotten hurt in 14-15

He was taking a huge leap and went from unplayable to decent starter (in that era )

His skills really were off the charts ... his body and athleticism ... and ultimately brain (decision making ) failed him .

He lit up the boards when he showed glimpses of a post game.

    That's a sad what-if right there. :(
