Those books look like echo chambers at first glance. I’ll explore them further in the morning but the premise that Trump was cultivated by Russia for 30 years is ridiculous. He has basically zero success in Russia with his business and the geography of his business success is well documented even if people don’t want to accept it for whatever strange reason. No, English is my second language so no. I think conservatives have been spreading codified language for some time. So you use Democrat Party or death tax or virtue signaling or SJW or any number of other slogans or terms then it just lets me know where you're coming from before you start. I had more respect for Chomsky before I saw that interview. I believe there to be plenty of merit to the sources he mentions of influence on US congressional as well as presidential elections. But the man, in response to the Russian collusion question, responds "I don't know and I don't care", then speculates a bit. On the other hand we have the July 13 2018 indictment from the Mueller team, and the two books I mentioned, again, thoroughly researched. I think I'll take these latter over Mr. Chomsky's speculation and absence of care.
I still respect Chomsky, even with his advanced age, because he's still able to hammer the harder points. We've been desensitized to corporate influence/money and have totally capitulated to the decisions of 9 people over what constitutes as "speech" without nary a fight in legislating controls over the ruling's precise terms. I'm in the camp the hack jobs on the DNC and Clinton campaigns were significant and deliberate, but I'm not going to go as far as impeachment because of the high degree of difficulty for a conviction. Chomsky's issue, OTOH, is a lingering and persistent problem in American Democracy and won't be changed any time soon. I understand you experienced suffering but using your personal anecdote to place yourself on a high horse about the atrocities of socialism over another poster is kinda sad and is exactly the "pissing match" that you allegedly try to refrain from. Also, comparing the US economy and Venezuelan economy on a 1:1 basis assuming both economies require the same exact solutions is kinda silly. Also, @CometsWin isn't asking for the government take over of Exxon Mobile. He's asking for the type of socialism that exists in many European countries and our neighbors to our North. You are beating up a strawman. Every modern developed nation is a mixture of public and private sector. The debate is where that ratio lies. No country is only one thing or the other. The US has had a healthcare problem for decades now. Too many people are not on health insurance. Too many Americans have to file for bankruptcy because of medical bills. Americans pay the most per capital in healthcare costs on the planet. It's a problem and don't be surprised many people think that a product that has inelastic demand should be in the public sector. Because Americans don't live in horrible conditions as Venezuelans today, doesn't mean there are several shortcomings with our economic system that can be improved.
