No offense, but I'll take the original version of that song every time. I prefer this Neil Young: I've been listening to this a lot lately: I saw him in like, 92 in St. Louis... he had a short acoustic set and then came out on stage by himself with a foot pump organ and literally just said, "What do you want to hear?" and just played what the audience wanted (except for the Cortez the Killer" request). Not a big set production with lights and pyrotechnics and direction, but most memorable show ever. 80's producers did the same thing to everybody. Square peg into a round danceable hole. There's a great Rhino 2 CD version of Elvis Costello's "Punch The Clock" album with all these really great acoustic demo versions of his songs on a second CD, and then you get the final released version where everything has been mangled to 120bpm with lots of processing and polish and it all sounds the same. I listen to the demos quite a bit. I dont listen to the released album pretty much ever. I dont think there are many Neil Young fans who would choose "Trans" or "Re·ac·tor" if they could only have one album on their desert island.
I did this thread a decade ago... I'm posting this not only out of spite, but because I have construction outside and I had 3 girls bail on me last night.
No offense taken, and I prefer the original as well. His 80's output does not compare to his best work, but live the man can bring it. His recent work with Promise of the Real has been outstanding.
Well in the mid 80's he basically intentionally tried to piss off his label with stuff like the Shocking Pinks and Trans. My older sister was huge into him, she went to see him @ Gilley's with the SP's. Tonight's the Night will always be my fave..
That's ****ing awesome, man, thanks for the heads up. I'll def need to check out more of their stuff and hopefully can try to make that show.
this thing screams the 1980s . . . but because it got so much damn airplay, I don't really consider it a "favorite."
Hmmm...it's in the mix with Driver 8, Radio Free Europe, Orange Crush and probably a couple of others...
Damn, y'all posted everything I would've posted. This is one of those songs that will never get old to me : I still consider this one of the greatest beats/hip hop songs of all-time, and also one of the most underrated : This may have been posted already, but I hated Culture Club and Boy George when I was a kid -- I never realized then how beautifully this song starts out : Was this posted? If not... come on... New Order! Come on, New Order!!!!
NEW. ORDER. I SAID!!!! Sadistic bastards : Seti, Hatshepsut, and Tut approved : If you love Houston hip-hop, you know where this song was sampled : Snoop approved :
