Or better said ... so many of the comments in this thread appear to not agree with your opinion.

To do anything beyond May 22 the UK will have to participate in the EU Parliamentary elections.

If the UK votes to participate in these elections, then Brexit is over and the people of the UK are betrayed. If the UK does not participate in these elections, Brexit is achieved.

As far as I can tell, nobody on the Labour side is even proposing participating in these elections and they certainly have not called for a vote to make it happen. Until they do, all the rest of this is just a lot of smoke.

If not even Labour will support participating in the EU Parliamentary elections, then it is not going to happen.

The deadline for formal notice of election for the EU Parliamentary elections is next Friday, April 12, 2019 for Southwest England and Monday, April 15, 2019 for the rest of the country. This is why the EU settled on that particular date for their extension.

These notices have not gone out yet and it is still the formal policy of the UK that these elections will not be held. Of course contingency planning was underway for these elections going back to last year and everyone was ordered to high alert that these elections could very well happen and need to be prepared for by Theresa May today. But in fact the formal election notifications have not been issued yet.

UK faces deadline for European elections

If the UK is to take part in the European elections, the formal notice of election for the south-west England region - triggering the timetable for polling day - must be published no later than Friday April 12: a week today. This is because the south-west England region would include Gibraltar, whose deadline for its own election notice is April 12. Notices of elections in all other regions would need to be published no later than Monday April 15, according to the Electoral Commission.

France continues to reiterate the requirement that UK must have a plan backed by the House of Commons in order to justify any further extension. Otherwise, “In the absence of such a plan, we would have to acknowledge that the UK chose to leave the EU in a disorderly manner.”

France maintains hardline stance on no-deal Brexit

France has reiterated its opposition to Britain being granted any further Brexit extension if it does not have a concrete plan with clear support in the House of Commons, saying that without that Britain must be deemed to have chosen to leave the EU without a deal.

Responding to May’s letter, France’s secretary of state for European affairs, Amélie de Montchalin, told the Guardian in a statement: “The European council took a clear decision on 21 March … Another extension requires the UK to put forward a plan with clear and credible political backing.”

The council would then have to define the necessary conditions attached to that extension, she said. “In the absence of such a plan, we would have to acknowledge that the UK chose to leave the EU in a disorderly manner.”

Brexit with no deal on April 12, 2019 is still the law of the land and the default for what will happen here. As the French SOS for European Affairs states very astutely, in the absence of such a plan, the UK will have chosen to leave with no deal.

    Right on. Stay tuned.

EU ministers are not impressed with Theresa May's letter or the UK's complete lack of justification for the extension request they are making.

EU ministers say May's letter to Tusk too vague to justify article 50 extension - live news

May's letter to Tusk does not provide enough 'clarity' about UK plans, says Dutch PM

German foreign minister says UK has 'many questions still to clarify' despite May's letter to Tusk

And Bruno Le Maire, the French finance minister, told reporters in Bucharest: "If we are not able to understand the reason why the UK is asking for an extension, we cannot give a positive answer."

According to Reuters, Norbert Roettgen, the head of the foreign affairs committee in the German parliament, said Theresa May’s request for an article 50 extension until 30 June made no sense and was motivated by “domestic tactical manoeuvring”.

It is my sense that German MP Norbort Roettgen has got it right. This is all heavily motivated by domestic politics concerns. The request makes no sense and I am pretty confident that Theresa May agrees with that assessment, even though it would be foolish for her to come out and say so just now.

Looks like Theresa May and her team are waiting for Labour to come over to their side and not vis versa. Labour is accusing Theresa May's government of being intransigent and refusing to move her red lines during the ongoing "negotiations".

Government has failed to compromise during talks, say Labour

Labour has accused the government of failing to offer real change or compromise during talks to end the Brexit stalemate.

In a statement following more talks between the opposition and a team appointed by Theresa May to agree a way forward, a Labour spokesperson said: "We are disappointed that the government has not offered real change or compromise. "We urge the Prime Minister to come forward with genuine changes to her deal in an effort to find an alternative that can win support in Parliament and bring the country together."

There is a lot of media instigated rumor and innuendo flying around right now, but if you examine Theresa May's actions over the last few days, she has continued to be entirely consistent with the positions she has held for over a year now.

Are you asking what MY "Facebook wall" is littered with? LOL. I do not now, nor have I ever had a Facebook account, nor do I expect I ever will.

    As if.

And then here is one of the hammerhead "experts" over at the UK Guardian, weighing in:

    Richard Partington
    1h ago 12:54

The pound is losing ground on the foreign exchanges this afternoon amid signs that much of the progress made on Brexit this week looks destined to unravel. Sterling briefly dropped below $1.30 against the dollar after Labour said it was disappointed Theresa May had not offered “real change or compromise” over her plan to leave the EU in talks with the opposition party.

Progress made on Brexit this week? Can these people really be that dumb? There was no progress made on Brexit this week. But another week of daylight has now been successfully burned, this time by Labour and the Remainers.

Theresa May will need to make sure to thank them for their help with this, after this is all over.

Here is an excellent observation from Labour about the lack of mass resignations in light of the supposed betrayal by Theresa May.

So the Tories in her Cabinet have all been shouting at her publicly, but they have not all resigned, which IS what would be expected if she had truly turned her coat and was outsourcing the completion of this proccess to the Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn.

What nonsense. I know everyone is all worked up, especially our friends in the UK. But we need to be exercising a little bit more discernment and not just going straight into meltdown mode because the 'Fake news' media has published their latest 'outrage of the day' lie.

Seven days to go. Tick tock.

i mean of course there's not going to be any changes to merkel's, i mean may's withdrawal agreement. they are going to continue ramming that shiit down the MPs throats until they get the vote outcome they want. as i've already posted here, this is the only play the eu cummission knows and was the same strategy w/ the lisbon treaty. they'll just keep kicking the can down the road frustrating the leaver MPs into submission to either forget about brexit altogether, or even better capitulate and give into their withdrawal agreement making GB a silenced vassal state once and for all

This has nothing to do with the EU. The UK hasn't offered any counterproposal for the EU to negotiate. It's not a "strategy". It's like us agreeing to a deal, you then saying you want to make changes, but not ever offering any changes you'd agree to. What exactly am I supposed to do?

What do you disagree with? Do you think the UK secretly made a counterproposal to the EU? You sound just like Mojoman creating your own reality of what you want to believe.
