Because he hasn't faced those problems and hasn't walked the proverbial mile in the proverbial shoes.
wut? Still no one here can address why Trump isn't addressing White Nationalism, which is adopting ISIS like tactics and seems these groups are becoming more and more radicalized and ready to take up arms. Sounds like just as many Muslims were in denial about ISIS, you see a lot of conservative whites in denials about this rising threat, and Trump doesn't want to disenfranchise the group that he stroked racial vibes with to gain power so he gives them the ole wink wink. Trump needs white nationalism. He is a nationalist himself after all by his own declaration.
Empathy is a distinct human trait that allows us to understand things about others' situations. To imply a person has the wrong skin color to have an opinion is in fact racist.
Believing you can completely understand the problems others face in situations that are impossible for you to comprehend is in fact arrogance and is in fact ignorance.
There already are a white LULAC and NAACP but they are way more powerful. It is called the United States government, United States society, and United States industry, etc.
How is that racist? Racism is and always will be thinking one race is superior to the next. The problem I have is Mick here telling others that he knows the REAL problems of black people...but does he really consider our opinions? I sure don't feel it. Empathy is also about listening too.
Definition of racism 1: a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race 2a: a doctrine or political program based on the assumption of racism and designed to execute its principles b: a political or social system founded on racism 3: racial prejudice or discrimination
You can definitely learn about someone by getting to know them and then empathizing. If people were not capabale of this, you would still see slavery in the US. People are more adept at this than you think and just because someone doesn't have a specific skin color, doesn't mean they may not know something about the problems facing that community. To contend that one needs to understand first hand in order to have a valid opinion is false. In fact, it is racist to put forward that people should just shut up because of their skin color.
Really confused how I discriminated against Mick there, again, the irony is that he told someone else they didn't know the REAL problems facing black people. Not sure why you're coming at me and not him. Again, empathy is also about listening. And yes, one BETTER understands if they experienced it first hand. This is why help groups are filled with victims that have gone through the same thing.
Knowing something doesn't equal understanding. That is where a lot of the problem comes from. People know somehting and think they have total understanding. I never put forward that anyone should shut up because of their skin color. However, they shouldn't tell others to shut up either. What I am suggesting is listening to people who have the most experience and understanding of a situation.
You violated his safe space and infringed upon his right of free speech. You should be arrested under the constitution for trying to suppress his free speech. He has every right to tell you what your problems are black man, just because he is white doesn't mean he can't tell everyone what goes inside a black person. He knows your thoughts better than you do. And you have no right to protest or complain as that would violate his rights and make you a tyrant. You act like he is supposed to listen to your thoughts. That's stupid, he already knows them.
Knowing something does not equal total understanding. It presumptuous for you to tell others about problems you only know something about. Trust me, they probably know more about the issues they face than you do. That being said, nobody is telling anyone to shut up because of their skin color.
No one is doubting a black person's ability to know their problems well but the original post I questioned had a negative tone. Here it is. "Who are you to tell black people what their real problems are though?" It implies that a non-black person shouldn't talk about the subject, thus that means shut up because you don't have a particular skin color. This type of shut down is common among people into identity politics. What if that person has a unique background that allows them to understand a particular aspect of the black experience and the problems they face? No one is claiming the person knows exactly what it is like to be black first hand. That would be impossible.
Again, I said what I said because Mick took a position of authority. Mick: If people like you and Lou cared 1/10 as much about the real problems that plagued black folks as much as this silly **** somebody might take you serious. Me: Who are you to tell black people what their real problems are though? Obviously, I don't take the position of 'non-blacks shouldn't talk about the subject' because if I did I would have gone after others in this thread. I took an issue with Mick telling others that they don't know the REAL problems that plague black people.
