This could be interesting. South Bend Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg has moved into third place in the latest poll for Iowa:

Buttigieg surges to third place in new Iowa poll

South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) surged into third place in a poll of the Iowa caucus released Sunday. Eleven percent of likely Democratic Iowa caucusgoers surveyed by Emerson Polling said they would pick Buttigieg to be their 2020 presidential nominee.

Overall, Buttigieg placed third behind Former Vice President Joe Biden, at 25 percent, and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), at 24 percent. The only other candidate to receive double-digit support was Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who was the choice for 10 percent of respondents.

Wisconsin has always been a non-conventional state in the same way that Minnesota is. It is a far more independent state in many ways, and has a history of being a Democratic state (in national elections for over 30 years). Trump was the first Republican to win the state since Reagan, and Trump isn't a traditional Republican nominee. I could easily see someone that is less conventional like Sanders or O'Rourke doing very well there.

    Basically this.

I get it, the Democrats have lost two elections where they won the popular vote....... but the timing is at least opportune.

What is interesting, is that the Electoral College could help the Democrats this election, if they carry Florida or Ohio or Pennsylvania narrowly.

Will the Democrats still be complaining about the Electoral College? Will some Republicans start complaining about it?

54% of the people said they would consider voting for him. 46% said they would not consider voting for him. If 80% of that 54% decided to vote for him he would lose the overall vote 57-43 which would be a landslide.

How many people would vote for him but don't want to admit it? I think this election, like the last one, will turn on who makes it out of the Democratic primaries assuming there aren't significant changes in the economy or the various investigations.

What rational person would really be excited? Job is incredibly stressful and ages the heck out of all of them. Add on top that you tend to end up with a good percentage of the country hating you. Takes an interesting personality to really want it.

While I agree there will a percentage of people that will say they didn't vote for him (just like last time), I don't think any of that (who the Democrats nominate, what the current economic situation is) matters... republicans will vote for him no matter what. You will hear words like "judges" and "taxes" but the real reason... "R".
