Jussie knows some powerful people who are willing to piss all over our justice system in the middle of a high-profile case.

I'm glad everybody has their priorities in line and is all kinds of angry about this guy, instead of actual important things.

    Should be in jail, btw.

Yes we should be angry. Because it shows a clear divide between the elite and non-elite. This is a class issue. There is the privileged class and the unpriviliged, and Jussie tries to pretend to be a victim and downtrodden class victim, when in reality he is part of a progressive elite class of wealthy celebrities and politicians who will never face true justice. If you or me faked a hate crime and spread the lie all over the media, which effectively further stirred up racial tensions in this country, you can bet your house that we'd be rotting in a jail cell.

Except the only similar example I can find resulted in probation, so probably not.

The only remotely similar case I could think of is the crazy girl/McCain volunteer who carved up her own face and told police that some black people did it on behalf of Obama a week or two before the 2008 election.

I posted it a page or two bsck:

It was in Pensylvania, and the cases aren't exactly the same so maybe he would have ended up with some sort of jail time, but I don't imagine quite as much as many are thinking.

I dont know Smollett's legal history, but my admittedly very limited experience is that nonviolent first time offenders that aren't using public defenders often get really lenient plea deals - much more than you'd expect just reading the statutes in a book.

Well I don't think it is comparable... but OK. Anyone faking a hate crime should have the book thrown at them. Especially a high profile actor doing it. Or it just undermines our country, and sends a clear message that we not a country of laws.

You have every right to be angry. He should be in jail.

That said, attempting to politicize this ("progressive elite") or as others drawing tenuous connections to Obama is silly and wrong and simply points to the growing partisan divide (what many describe as "tribes"). As you can see in this case, republicans and Democrats have agreed he should be in jail. And both agree that this shows a definite difference in how wealthy people get treated by the system than what non-wealthy people. And while it happened in a so-called Democrat state or city... it happens just as often (if not more) in so called republican states or areas.

Just remember to express that anger the next time a wealthy guy gets away with someone.

He has a DUI and he claimed to be is his brother to police so he was convicted of providing false information.

Thanks for the link. I did not remember this from 2008. Looking up pictures of her after the so called "attack" it is easy to see she did this to herself in a mirror. Just look at the backwards B. I could never imagine doing anything like either this girl or Smollett but how could either of them be so careless making it so easy to get caught?

Which apparently isn't costing him...anything. You'd think bad PR would affect an entertainer (it certainly has in the past), but it seems it isn't impacting his career much, if at all.

I guess we will see what the ratings are for Empire if he returns. I certainly won't be watching it...but I wasn't before, either. Will people who used to watch...not watch? Will some who didn't watch before start? I guess the ratings will show.

Haha...I hear ya! BUT...probably not if you believed in his politics and race baiting...which Smollett clearly does.

No, I don't believe it is. Which is a big part of the problem. And doesn't even get into the prosecutor seeming to be actively working for the defense.

While its possible trump is a wealthy guy... I have no idea where you are pulling trump in anything I wrote. Perhaps you are feeling overly defensive about something?
