Those two cases don't even approach each other in terms of what was done. I think this board would be going crazy if it was a wealthy white male who faked an attack by illegal aliens in order to further his political views or worse his career. I know I would. And I'm feeling a little sick about this result as well. Unless as some have theorized there were problems with how the police handled the case, I don't understand how anyone can feel good about this result (unless there was strong evidence clearing him which I suspect we would be hearing about if it existed.)

Smollett wasn't exonerated. they admit he committed the crime. prosecutors are saying he has already been punished enough for his crime. This is not the case with Trump where Mueller says i have no proof he committed a crime.

you really want to go down this road?

I'm going out on a limb here, but there may be some corruption in Chicago.

    I sort of do.

Will you admit too that Trump wasn't exonerated? Even the Bill Barr Cliff Notes Summary clearly states "this does NOT exonerate the President". Why aren't you this fired up about that one vs. this one?

Maybe... just Maybe.... politics are involved here just as you believe they are with your King Trump. You want scalps just like you think anti-Trumpers wanted to get Trump.

So maybe you just admit you are being a bit of a hypocrite here, and that you wanted to get your political scalp.

Sometimes people on both sides of the political spectrum do bad things, and get off scott free. That's injustice that is bi-partisan. Cohen goes to jail, Avennatti goes to jail. Trump gets off, Smollett gets off. The cycle continues. Everyone hates everyone on TV. Scott Foster refs a deciding game in the playoffs. Game of Thrones starts back up in 3 weeks.

    Life in 2019.

My experience is people talk a bunch about "normal" punishment for a crime without much actual real world context. As a hypothetical, they might talk about Hollywood drug cases getting diversion as a special treatment, when in fact in most states most first time drug offenders get diversion to treatment.

The problem here, of course, is finding legit comparable cases to contextualize it.

I'm not sure how the state has acted in comparable cases in the past. But I'm also not sure there have been comparable cases in the past.

Wasnt that girl who carved an "O" for Obama in her face and said a bunch of black people did it in Illinois? Maybe I have my facts backwards, but if not the outcome there might give some framework to evaluate this.

I dont know the answer in this case at all. Maybe he got the greatest sweetheart deal ever, but I'm pretty sure a bunch of the people screaming foul have no better idea of how this would "normally" be handled than me. Before buying into Illuminati conspiracies, I'd just like some sort of comparables and how they were handled in order to place it in context.

First of all... I already questioned and expressed my unhappiness with the Smollett news.

I was only responding to the troll's "democrats!" post, since its more often the rich republican that gets off with a light sentence because wealthy people can afford better representation.

Actually, unless Mueller called you to discuss his findings, you are miss-stating what Mueller wrote.

That does not mean there was no proof of conspiracy, let alone any crime. Instead, it means Mueller didn't find sufficient evidence that a criminal conspiracy between trump or his campaign and russians.

No one has found sufficient evidence that you raped the Pope either. You are as "exonerated" from that charge as Trump is from conspiring with the Russians to steal the 2016 election from Hillary Clinton.

Prosecutors absolutely love to nail celebs on cases like this -- I wonder if they saw some falsified evidence from LE that was going to destroy the case and further ruin trust with Chicago PD.

I was in no way attacking your views on this -- just the comparison with Kraft. I saw your earlier post. My "outrage" is not directed at you or your comments, just the result unless more information comes out.

Pretty much the only thing they had was identifying the two guys close in there area that worked with Jussie on Empire, and when they questioned them said they were paid by Jussie to stage the attack. It's not like they planted anything.

What other case like this have prosecutors ever nailed a celebrity on? I am drawing a blank.

I know the facts - I'm just thinking out loud because this looks extremely corrupt on the surface and prosecutors typically don't invite massive **** storms on themselves.
