just wondering over the last 30 years how many times has the best player on the best team won mvp? Also when Kobe and mj had their historic seasons ( I think 2007 and 87 respectively) were their teams record as good as the Rox this year ? If JH doesn’t win its str8 highway robbery
Lol, using the “Best player on the best team” to award the Leagues MVP is asinine!! Using this logic, we could also conclude the best player in a certain category???? Best rebounder on the best rebounding team?? Best assist player on the best assist team?? Best blocker on the best rebounding team?? It’s just plain STUPID!!! ....... ....... .......
Yes its stupid, but it is also precedent which is how the MVP got awarded most of the time. IIRC Steve Nash, Dirk, KG, Steph, quite a lot of players won the MVP due to this reason. Harden also won the MVP last year due to Rox getting 1st seed. Odds are def stacked against Harden this year and thats cuz tye stats between Giannis and Harden are pretty close. Harden 36.4 pts 6.4 rebs 7.5 assist Giannis 27.4 pts 12.6 rebs 6 assist Harden has 9 more pts 1 more assist but Giannis gets 6 more rebs, people are gonna say Giannis has more individual production and also better group success and his game doesnt rely on fts thats why he is MVP. Harden needs to step up and bury the Bucks to convince voters he is MVP.
WB got it because of the historic triple double. I actually wouldnt have an issue with WB getting the MVP if he wasnt padding his stats to get the trip dub.
Just a year ago, folks in this forum were not saying it was stupid to have the best player on the best team as MVP- because Harden was the best player on the best team. I think the team's record has to play a factor in the decision. Is Harden's performance so much better than Giannis that it makes up for the Rockets having 8 more losses than the Bucks? In my opinion, yes. If you factor injuries in, hell yes.
Bucks are not the best team nor do they have the best record in the nba all they have is the best record in the east and the east is not the west those who know and those who dont are not the same and the night is nothing like the day the Brick Freak cant even shoot for gods sake hes a liability in the clutch..and this is the age of 3s!! what kind of mvp cant stay on the court in the clutch?!!
Then it would've been a Warrior last few years, Lebron in every year at Miami, Duncan on some of those Spurs teams. In that case you don't even need a vote, just look at the best record and boom, there's your MVP.
Best team must have good players in 5 positions. It does not mean the best player in this team us the best. Just like the best player in a football team joins back his country team.
NBA should change the rule until the league balances out that no one in the East is allowed to win MVP.
Funny thing about this........ all West !!!! This is actually AMAZING because it's rarely mentioned (and I've never thought about it).... Since '87, unless it's Jordan or LeBron, the MVP never goes East. Exceptions, Iverson and Rose. We know Rose was a fraud. LeBron and Jordan can at least boast 3.0+ PER advantage on next competitor and often had best record as well.
If Harden does not win the MVP, he should take his old trophy and throw it in the trash, and broadcast it. Make a statement, only he can make, that the MVP voting is a JOKE
If the Bucks were a 65+ win behemoth in what looked to be a finally loaded Eastern Conference - which is the way it appeared back in December, this argument might have some merit. Instead they're limping over the finish line and Giannis is "load managing" his way down the stretch. These things do not an MVP make, when your competition is "guy who is doing Wilt things on a team that is also really very pretty good" This isn't Kobe scoring 81 for a just barely 500 8th seed team or Westbrook and the Thunder boxing out empty space in 2017.
