You seem to think it means less or something, I'm really confused as to why that is.

So what you're saying is that pre-2017, we've had the same amount of hate crimes but the difference is that more are reported? Can you then prove that pre-2017 that there was the same amount? You'd need to prove that...otherwise you're arguing that there are more reports...which is all we have to go by.

There were .46 hate crimes per agency in 2016 as opposed to .52 per agency in 2017 so there I did you guys a favor

That being said the article still says the reporting isnt clear as some agencies werent clear on what is a hate crime

You actually can't prove that at all though?

@pgabriel has persuaded me. According to the SPLC and the Bureau of Justice Statistics, there are ~ 250,000 hate crimes each year, which means the FBI statistics are reporting something like 3% of them. In other words, their data is junk. The data set is too small and isn't a representative sample from which you could draw some statistical conclusions. The BJS surveys seem more scientifically robust, but they end in 2015.

That doesn't mean there wasn't a spike after Trump was elected. But literally the only things supporting the idea that there was a spike was this FBI data and anecdotal impressions from news accounts at the time (which, as it happens, would quote FBI statistics as they talk about how each particular crime fits the wider pattern of increased hate crimes). I think it would be much better to say we know nothing. If we ever learn something, it'll be from an academic or a think tank or a stats agency, not the FBI.

But even PGA here is saying from those that reported still reported an increase, that the FBI is underreporting is not a surprise...

Also, here is a research institution that came up with the same conclusion...and they are counting terrorist attacks.
    https://www.csis.org/analysis/rise-far-right-extremism-united-states
"Right-wing extremism in the United States appears to be growing. The number of terrorist attacks by far-right perpetrators rose over the past decade, more than quadrupling between 2016 and 2017. The recent pipe bombs and the October 27, 2018, synagogue attack in Pittsburgh are symptomatic of this trend. U.S. federal and local agencies need to quickly double down to counter this threat. There has also been a rise in far-right attacks in Europe, jumping 43 percent between 2016 and 2017."

And they used international data from the https://www.start.umd.edu/gtd/

I think we know more than enough to see that extremism is rising and that the ADL, SPLC, the CSIS, and even the FBI and Military are saying that it's a bit of a growing problem. The fact that the FBI is getting more reports doesn't deny the increase that others are warning about.

That claim was definitely willful deception. The media does it all the time as well as some people here on Clutchfans. Of course I am giving all of them the benefit of the doubt that they are mentally competent enough to actually comprehend what he said. I guess it is possible they lack the ability to comprehend spoken words.

I've stated this before in the Charlottesville incident thread way back when but I guess I'll repeat myself.

The protest required a permit by the town. So whoever filed for the permit were the protest organizers of the protest. The group that filed the permit that was approved were the self labeled white supremacist group that was chanting "Jews will not replace us!" They were the protest organizers .

Imagine if a group of self labeled ISIS supporters filed a permit to start a protest. Would you label the people who joined in with them later in the day because they share some common goals "very fine people"? Im pretty sure people would label anyone joining that protest as "ISIS sympathizers" and rightfully so .

Even if I was so obsessed with keeping Confederate monuments which in itself is just weird and seems like a cause really not fighting for the moment I knew I was walking into a protest ORGANIZED by a self labeled white supremacist group, I'm joining the counter protestors because I would hope even ardent Confederacy fans(weird thing to be a fan of but okay...) would be cautious of joining a protest created by neo-nazis.

Also Steve Cortes? Doesn't that guy go on CNN just to be a glorified punching bag due to his ridiculous and easily dismissed arguments?

Yes the people who filed the permits didnt start the problems

I think a group of people who march with tiki touches chanting "Jews will not replace us!" are a problem. I think people joining a protest organized by people who chant Nazi slogans with a guise to support Confederate monuments which in itself is pretty damning to me at least are not "fine people".

I think it's a problem when the head of state of the most powerful nation on the planet calls a bunch of protestors joining in on a neo Nazis movement "fine people".
