This is an awesome night to be an Astros fan!

Now—what is our team salary at for this year? Have we nearly exhausted our luxury cap?

Not sure Correa's interested. It would help his cause if he can put a full season of the good Correa together this year.

That came out of Center field. What a bargain.

McTaggart sent out a correction tweet saying it’s a 5yr extension that kicks in next season. So he’s still playing at his normal salary this season before the 5yr/$100M extension begins in 2020.

He is probably gone. If he was willing to take a similar deal he would have been signed. This is a good deal for Astros. It keeps Bergman until he is 30.

It would definitely help. I just get the feeling he’s the odd man out longterm.

Would not surprise me to see him traded at some point. I mean the Astros can’t keep all these guys.

Does Bregman’s AAV increase this year, or next?

I would hope that he feels the need to live up to his talent and perform up to an All-Star level and staying healthy throughout the season.

I’m a big Correa fan, but Bregman passed him up last year as one of the franchise cornerstones.

Next year, so the Stros still have some money to play with during this season.

Doesn't matter. For tax purposes MLB uses the Annual Average Value, so for 2020-24 his AAV will be $20M/year (100M/5years)

The Competitive Balance Tax number is the one Crane has said he doesn't want to exceed ($206M this year).

He’s under contract this season for around $400,000 IIRC. Whatever the number was that they reported in the story last week about him being a little upset, that’s his contract for this season. So his AAV should go up next season. It’ll be interesting to see how they distribute the $100M over the 5 years. Back loading it could really help them extend JV on a shorter term deal without the risk of Bregman being well past his prime when the deal ends (should be only 30 when he becomes a FA).

I wonder what is in the mind of George Springer?

This is a very smart move and a steal if he can at least perform 80% of what he did last year.

I asked Larry the GM and he said it raises the AAV this year.

Sportrac has our salary at 200 mil this season.

It will be interesting to see if we still have the room to make moves.

I love Springer and he's probably my favorite player on the team, but he has never shown the consistency or potential that Bregman showed last season.

No kidding. I do feel bad for Springer but I hope astros can find a way to keep him here beyond next year.

A young guy with back problems makes me worried about giving him a long term deal. I doubt he would accept 6 years 100 million either. By the way he enjoys the spotlight I think he's destined for LA, NY, or BOS.
