Haha, I literally just finished writing a paper on KNN regression, root mean squared errors, and confidence intervals on housing prices for school. And now I'm getting "sample size" thrown at me on Clutchfans??? The world is unfair. Whether or not he saved our season is a totally different debate. How you play against the Warriors is critical to how you fit on this team. Ask Ryan Anderson. I like Faried. I believe in Faried. DO BETTER FARIED!
It was one regular season game, and he sucked in this latest one...If you think the Warriors aren't smart enough to take advantage of him on the floor, you're not taking the Warriors seriously enough.
the latest one was also just one regular season game and it was his first game back from the injury so for me thats a solid reason to give him benefit of doubt
Comparing Faried to certain other players is a false debate. This is able the best lineups. The lineup of Capela, Faried, and Tucker gives the Rockets the best rebounding and defensive team against bigger teams. As for Faried’s play, his weak side defense is fine so long as he gets consistent minutes and stays in rhythm with the other players. Faried can’t handle playing the 5, though. He’s just not big enough to defend against guys like Cousins, Towns, Embid, etc. No, he’s a 4 that gives you hustle, energy, rebounds, and a little scoring. Like Tucker, his energy ignites other players. Offensively, Faried can play the pick-n-role with Harden and Paul when other teams try to take Capela out of the picture. Yes, his 3’s are a small sample size but so far he’s showing he can knock down the shot better than a guy like Shumpert. Personally, I think his shorting percentage goes up when he gets consistent minutes.
Faried is not a good defender. Especially when he gets switched on to perimeter players who can dribble. He gets killed every time. House should start and EG, Faried, Rivers, and Shumpert should come off the bench. That lineup in terms of talent and depth should be comparable to last year’s squad.
The 2011-2012 Heat (champions) were one of the worst, and the next best team that season was the Celtics who were the worst. Rebounding is correlated with wins, but there are good rebounding teams who are losers and there are poor rebounding teams that are winners. There is a correlation, but the correlation is above average. Having a top 10 defense is inextricable from winning a championship. The correlation is extreme. There is exactly 1 team in the last 30 years that has won the championship without being a top 10 defense and that's the Shaq-Kobe Lakers when they were both in their prime with Phil Jackson and they were 15th (5-10 spots higher than us). If you are in the unfortunate situation of having to choose between rebounding and defense, you always choose defense. That's not debatable. Here is an article that will clarify it: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1892941-does-rebounding-matter-in-the-nba
Faried and Capela in the paint is dangerous Faried and Tucker hustling for every loose ball is also dangerous
yep Faried is dangerously underrated i just hope mda not starting him is a secret playoffs weapon or faried still being hurt
We need both if we have any realistic shot this year. There are exceptions to every rule, but securing a rebound after a good defensive stand is vital to our success. I forget where we rankest last year as far as rebounding, but it seemed like we were at least an above average rebounding team. Giving up multiple offensive rebounds is demoralizing, keeps us out of transition, and helps keep lesser opponents within striking distance. I agree that defense is first. As far as this team goes, if we have to choose one or the other it may doom us come playoff time. Does anyone know our rebounding rate or percentage during House’s last stint as a starter? I know he has been good defensively. If he can upgrade our rebounding then he won’t be a liability in either area(defense or rebounding). Just start House and PJ and roll with it if Faried can’t cut it defensively. Faried can do his thing off the bench backing up the 4 and 5 in certain matchups. I wouldn’t mind seeing a slightly larger sample size of Faried starting at the 4 just out of curiosity, but I’m fine with him with the second unit.
We have to choose when to deploy which. The truth is there is no reason why this lineup can't rebound just as well as last year's playoff lineup: Capela - Capela Tucker - Tucker House - Ariza Harden - Harden Paul - Paul Ariza grabbed 4.4 rebounds in 35 minutes. House grabs 3.6 in 25 minutes. House is on par if not better than Ariza as a rebounder. None of them will defend better than Ariza. Faried can rebound off the bench where his defensive weaknesses are not compounded by Harden's presence all the time. Faried rebounding off the bench improves our rebounding. He doesn't have to start to make that impact. To be honest I don't think there's any debate in the coaching staff about this so I'm not worried. They know we can win it with mediocre rebounding, but not with mediocre defense. Defense is just more important than rebounding and all stats ever recorded strongly support that position.
I love his energy... but we were outrebound & he just sucks defensively. He can pop up once in the blue to block a shot, but majority of the time he gets slaughter on that end..
He's had a long career of bad defense. So, I don't think that warrants the benefit of the doubt. House belongs in the starting lineup, no question about it.
And this will answer our rebounding struggles. Opponents get too many offensive rebounds against us! Time to bring that big man line up again
