There's a Bleacher Report article today about how Jeanie Buss was pissed off at LeBron's agent, Rich Paul, for leaking the supposed lie that the Lakers would be willing to completely gut their roster for AD. So pissed off, in fact, that she briefly entertained the idea of trading LeBron to get rid of the toxic combination of him and Paul. What makes this GARM material is that the article's author asks a bunch of NBA owners and GMs to comment anonymously about whether they'd be interested in acquiring LeBron at this point in his career. The following was included: That caught my attention for a number of reasons: 1. mentioning catching Golden State, Morey's admitted obsession 2. wouldn't give up his best player (Harden?) for LBJ 3. the cadaver line; not too many GMs have a sense of humor If he'd also mentioned that we don't have the assets to pull off such a move, I'd be certain it's him. Anyone else think this might be our Darnell Marley?
Nope. That was a pure hot-take. I didn't even read a word other than the title, but I'm sticking to my answer.
Cadavers! LOL. It could be Morey. Also worth noting the article author is Ric Bucher. BAY AREA Rich Bucher. Also the same Ric Bucher that put out an article a few months ago saying players don't want to play with LeBron #context
After reading the article and your analysis, my hot-take was weak and uninformed. May it be a lesson for all hot takes from all sources and how you react to them.
assuming this article is even true, it may be a reach. it could really apply to any of the top west teams
Could be anyone. Which of these players would you trade for Lebron right now? Deearon Fox Devin Booker Luka Doncic Deandre Ayton Damian Lillard Nikola Jokic Donovan Mitchell Harden for Lebron is laughable.
Morey would never use the word "cadavers". He would (unknowingly) disrespect players using math and numbers not forensic science. It's the wrong science.
Note that I am in no way advocating that this trade would be a good one, or that Morey would even pursue it. I just like the idea that (if the quote is actually his) he has enough faith in Harden to laugh off the idea.
Morey is more diplomatic. He flat out said in Sloan he doesn't outsmart other GMs. Definitely self conscious about his rep.
If I learned anything from the Chris Paul trade it's that Morey will find a way to pull anything off. We might not have the necessary assets at face value now but if motivated and if LeBron's available, Morey can do put together something to make it a reality. The issue here is whether or not LeBron will be visiting the private schools in Houston first.
sounds like the gm is calling the players around his best player cadavers. i don't think morey would do that
