The establishment wing of the democrat party is going to cost them this election cycle. They sold out llhan in a matter of seconds without thinking of what they were doing.

Not unfair. She complains about Obama's drone strikes for which he was criticized during his administration for the collateral damage and other unsavory aspects of using robots to do your dirty work. Presidents have to operate in some morally impossible fields. I still like Obama, but he is definitely responsible for people's deaths who shouldn't have had to die. She's probably being a bit too idealistic to think future Presidents won't have to make the same choices -- especially if the USA is going to continue to be the world hegemon -- but the description is right.

    Why not have both?

Correct, so the anti-antisemitism charges against Ilhar Omar are ridiculous and just the usual defense of Zionism-- the colonial project.

What get's lost is that there is a religious base with in the gop that thinks Hitler was sent by god. Which is beyond crazy.
Fully supporting Israel with blind loyalty isn't going to grant any of these goper's, "christians" or me easy entrance into the after life.
It isn't antisemitism for Israel to go after the parade of horribles in Israel and punish them. Corruption is everywhere and it should be yanked.

Name me ONE non-Jewish public figure that is heavily critical of Israeli policy and not anti-semitic.

I humbly nominate myself. The policies supported by a majority of Israelis and the fundie US "Christians" due to their screwy treatment of the Bible make me touch base with Jewish folks like the following guy.
    "
My experience growing up during the 1950s and 1960s was typical of many Jewish Americans. Like many Jews with this background, I’ve grown increasingly ashamed of Israel.

For 40 years, Israel has been ruled mostly by a series of right-wing governments – more and more openly racist and abusive of Palestinian rights. It’s not the land of tree-planting, kibbutzim and “a country treating its Arab minority nicely” that we were sold as youngsters.

That’s why a large number of proud Jewish Americans—raised to believe in civil liberties and open discussion—are appalled by the campaign to muzzle Rep. Ilhan Omar, as well as Speaker Pelosi’s role in it. "

I think his point was to point to someone who is heavily critical of Israel who isn't called a anti-Semite by Republican and establishment Democrat politicans.

We also have to keep in mind that the majority of Israelis are truly, sincerely, deeply frightened. It took me a long time to understand that, because much of what they believe about their options is a myth. It just never clicked in my mind that - like any ideology - the power of belief will ultimately prevail over the power of truth. The reality is that they actually believe the horror stories about their alternate futures, they believe that there is no peaceful path to a solution and that violence is unavoidable. It's not that they want to elect people who are indifferent to killing Palestinians, it's that their subconscious has maliciously been fed the notion that every Palestinian killed means the fate of their grandparents are further from them. There's only so much fear a person can take before they will hand their vote over to a strong man just to be able to move on with their lives without being paralysed by fear.

Drowning a country in fear makes over 1/3rd of its adults indifferent to foreign policy and another 1/3rd of adults become war mongers. This is a tried and tested formula, and it sucks to speak about humans like mice, but truthfully there are frightening amounts of scientific data about how to mould the pscyhe of a nation. Applying this formula makes it almost impossible for the remaining people to make a real difference, and it serves the added bonus of those 1/3rd war mongers serving as self-regulating deterrents and the additional 1/3rd indifferent people constantly telling you to shush. It's the Moreyball of politics. I watched this policy come into effect in a country I've lived in and I watched what happened over 10 years. I know for Americans it's hard to even fathom a country disinterested in war, and for me it used to be impossible to fathom a country obsessed with war. I can't believe how quickly everyone turned, and I can't believe how difficult it is to explain to a younger person that this is unusual and things were different just a decade ago even though no heightened threat has come into existence. I bet Israelis deal with that problem too.

Israelis are doing their best. Who knows? Maybe Omar is anti-semitic. I'm not personally willing to bet on her being a moral angel of some sort. She doesn't seem to be anti semitic. What I know is that the majority of what she said is true and that she is acting in the best interests of Americans and Israelis alike. I hope people are aware that other lobbying powers have been smart enough to learn from this experience and split their money between hundreds of entities so as not to have the lightning rod quality of AIPAC. I truly hope that one day Ilhan Omar will be as critical of the influence of those other governments as she is of Israel. I'm hopeful.

well there's also the hypnotising quote, and all the things that came before, this isn't her first.

The one thing i do wonder, is what would she need to say in order for these people to believe she's anti-semitic?

Or is it that people think she's an idiot that just says dumb things she doesn't grasp ala steve king?

If she made blanket comments about all Jewish people, or played into bigoted stereotypes of Jewish people, I would think that she was anti-semitic.

More on the distinction between being anti-Zionist and anti-Semitic. For those who perhaps sincerely do not understand the issue -- not right wing activists who hope to get more Jews to switch to the Party of Trump.

I don't know if anyone was buying it, but certainly there were plenty who wanted to exploit it as weapon to be used against political opponents.

She would need to say something actually anti-Semitic first.
