I think she knows certain people take offense to her dual loyalty quote.

    reaction from the right:

I’d laugh too, if I had just taken over the Democratic Party. I think we have crossed a Rubicon of sorts. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and the Congressional Black Caucus–which supported Omar unanimously, as best one can tell from news reports–are in the driver’s seat. Anti-Semitism is now accepted by the Democratic Party.

Never mind lame attempts to change the subject like the multiple tweets from presidential candidates to the effect that it is not anti-Semitic to criticize the policies of the government of Israel. Of course not, but that is not what Omar did, and not what she got into trouble for doing. She has criticized, rather, American supporters of Israel who she says were bought off by “Benjamins” and are loyal to a foreign power. And she has tried to bring about the destruction of Israel, an important American ally, by supporting the BDS movement, which seeks Israel’s obliteration.

The Democratic Party is not the first to embrace anti-Semitism. A number of European parties did so in the early decades of the 20th century. The political calculus is straightforward: there are only a few Jews, a slow-growing (if growing at all) demographic, while there are lots of anti-Semites, especially among our fast-growing Islamic population. That is, of course, Omar’s base.

We witnessed today the birth of a new Democratic Party. And so far, I haven’t seen a single Democratic officeholder complain about it.

btw, ATT: @biff17 , apparently Tlaib now "matters" ;)

    AOC fundraising letter today:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s campaign arm sent out a fundraising plea minutes before Thursday’s House vote on an anti-hatred resolution, asking for dollars to defend her and liberal allies Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib.

“It’s official – AIPAC is coming after Alexandria, Ilhan and Rashida,” the email began, referring to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee.

“Rashida, Ilhan and Alexandria have at times dared to question our foreign policy, and the influence of money in our political system. And now, lobbying groups across the board are working to punish them for it.”

The House passed a resolution Thursday afternoon condemning all forms of hatred after Omar made statements widely condemned as anti-Semitic.

The email quotes an “AIPAC activist” – Stephen Fiske – who had told the New York Times that the trio “will not be around in [Congress in ] several years.”

The note went on to point out that “some members of Congress have even gone so far as to claim that ‘questioning support for the U.S.-Israel relationship is unacceptable.’”

In the fundraising plea, “Team AOC” argued that “just a decade ago it was ‘unquestionable’ to not support the war in Iraq.” “And we all saw what resulted from that lack of discussion and negotiation,” the email read.

“Help us build a progressive movement that fights for the honest conversation, inclusiveness and our universal fight with hate with a $27 contribution,” it continued.

I agree with everything in the House resolution. But I don't like it. Part of it is aimed at the pandora's box of white nationalism Trump's election opened. Part of it is aimed at Omar's challenge to our pro-Israel policy. Omar's criticisms have been artless, and she's been so clumsy she deserved most of the criticism she's gotten. But by coming down on her, they are squashing a legitimate debate on how much should we really be supporting this ally when they do bad things. We used to play the broker in Israeli-Palestinian relations. Trump has thrown that role out the window and now we are squarely behind Israel on their position regarding Palestine. Apparently, the House agrees with this position because when one member objected they dropped a piano on her. One, I disagree with our stance on Israel. But two, I'm concerned that our legislature can't have a debate on this subject. As I've said on this bbs before, when you call someone a racist you shut down dialogue. And that's what they've done.

Gee, if you are going to connect two different thoughts, at least make them two different thoughts in the same paragraph...

Why do you keep at this if I have already won.

And how does that article refute what I said?

Just because John Hinderaker says so on a blog means nothing but I guess you think he matters why?

you won the argument before; but now Tlaib's status has changed. She now "matters" . . . which she didn't the other day. ;)

I think the reaction to Omar strengthens her point about how our politicians place Israel on a undeserved infallible pedestal.

why "undeserved"? (forget "infallible" for the time being, pretty sure that's not the word you meant to use)

    means

I have no idea what this means.

i think this is much ado about nothing and even agree with her sentiment but not the way she has gone about it.

She needs to be more savy now that she has that platform.

Because some random blogger said so?

What nation-state deserves to have a perception of never making mistakes or never propagating bad policy?

I don't really think that summarizes U.S. foreign policy on Israel since WWII though

It has especially since the rise of evangelical worshiping of Israel and the prophecy of Armageddon.

Any critics of Israel today will proceed with a snap from establishment politicans that you are a supporter of Hamas magically or that you are an anti-Semite
