Marvel has yet to make a movie that sucks. I imagine it's like many of their other movies. Funny quips, cool action, predictable plot. Nothing special, but altogether entertaining. Aside from Iron Man, all of the initial solo movies have been fairly run of the mill, glorified warm ups for their role in the shared universe. A lot of people "want" this to suck because it's gotten caught up in all of this SJW nonsense, but with Marvels track record there's just no reason to think that's the case.
One of the reviewers I like said it was good, but not great. He felt like it was a typical space adventure super hero type movie on the level of Dr Strange or Ant Man. He didn't feel like the movie was SJW at all. Either way I'm still gonna see it.
Maybe it's just me but the Ant-Man films are criminally underrated. If Dr. Strange is the baseline for all Marvel Studios movies I can live with that
The Incredible Hulk Thor 2 Antman and the Wasp Avengers: Age of Ultron Ironman 2 all definitely sucked. If you are asking me; Black Panther, Antman, and Dr. Strange were all boring as well. All of these reviews looking for polite ways to say this movie sucks is hilarious: Spoiler
I'll agree that "Ultron" (a robot villain? almost zero ramifications for nearly dropping a country from the sky and creating some form of robot-Skynet, save the "Sekovia Accords" or whatever?), "Thor 2" (the mom got killed, dark elves, and a big fight in London; I remember nothing else about this crap), and "Iron Man 2" (Stark in his armor appears for, what?, eight minutes?) were weak. "Black Panther" didn't match the hype. I liked "Doctor Strange". The first "Antman" was lightweight but the sidekick Latino friend was funny.
Thor Darkworld says hello. Edited to add: Dr. Strange wasn't all that either. But, most of their movies are very good, I will concede.
Just got out of the early Fan Showing I'll give it a B- and put it lower on the list of Marvel Studio movies. Spoiler-light review: Spoiler The Good: Brie Larson is cute and like-able. There were some funny moments. It's a Nick Fury origin movie, too, sorta. Effects were good, IMO. When you find out what gives her powers, it makes more sense. Cat was awesome. My 13-year-old son loved it. The Bad: Yet another origin movie. Character development was poor, probably due to this being trimmed down for time. Editing was -terrible-. The movie jumps around and you really don't understand why. The directing was mediocre. A couple of thinly veiled manshaming moments. Ronan the Accuser wasn't nearly as badass as he was in GOTG. And he seemed to just stand around 24/7 in his outfit waiting for calls from people to bomb planets. Now that Marvel Studios has gotten it's feminism hit, can we get back to just having good directors regardless of sex? I think that's the biggest issue I had here. The movie was flat, directing was mediocre and editing was *terrible*. I would have gladly sat through 30 more minutes of movie to get a more complete film. But, it tried really hard despite itself. Brie Larson is good. It sets up Avengers: Endgame very well, and if you think about it, you can see how Captain Marvel will play a vital role. I wouldn't rush out to see it, but if you're a Marvel fan, it's a must-see (obviously). Otherwise, catch a matinee.
I thought it was going to be really bad, i’ll eat my crow. Brie Larson was very good, Samuel L Jackson is a national treasure and a top 3 casting for a Marvel character EVER. 8/10 Also Spoiler They really powered up Captain Marvel torwards the end there. She looks to be a good amount higher than Scarlett Witch (In IW) Tier, they definitely did this to make it more believable how ever way they’re planning to beat Thanos, which i’m okay with. [spoiler/]
This movie was whack. Brie Larson won an oscar and for half the movie she seems like she is reading lines. This was probably MOS level, but somehow it gets an 80%? Disney must control everything, and after buying fox and pretty much every other company they do.
Just saw it and it was pretty good. I had zero expectations going in. I’d give it 7.5/10. Not true spoilers but I’ll spoiler this Spoiler I think the 90s aspect of it was way overplayed and I thought some the soundtrack from the 90s was forced and detracted from some scenes. Also there is something that just doesn’t draw me into Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. I can’t exactly put my finger on it but I just think she was bad casting. I think I would have preferred Lashana Lynch (Maria Rambeau) or someone her style for a character as powerful as Marvel. Brie Larson just doesn’t have a lot of charisma or natural power to her personality. Like when Thor, Hela, Scarlet Witch, or Hulk comes in and starts wrecking everything it feels natural. When Captain Marvel started wrecking everything it felt forced and over done. It’s not that she’s a female lead hero. It’s just that Brie Larson doesn’t fit. Overall I thought the basic story was good. I just really wonder how the movie would have been without the forced 90s stuff that didn’t really add anything. Even further I wonder what the movie would have been like with a different actress for Captain Marvel. Also I think she will play an important role (hopefully minimal role) in Endgame but I don’t think she will defeat Thanos. Everything has set up for the Avengers to defeat Thanos. Lastly, if they want to push a female lead hero then they should push Shuri with Letitia Wright over Captain Marvel with Brie Larson. She’s just better.
