Because Moreyball is about eliminating the mid range shot, aka the worst shot in basketball. It can't be called Rudyball because Steve Francis and Mobley took (and missed) a ton of mid range shots under Rudy T. Morey and his team has to be credited for exposing the mid range shot as prior to them it was regarded as the gold standard of shots thanks to MJ (who ironically really only took a few mid range shots compared to his peers). It led to a revolution of analytics in the NBA as people realized they can apply moneyball style analysis to bball players. Nowadays I believe every NBA team has an analytics department and it has become vogue to hire an analytics guru as your GM. Looking at guys like Ujiri, Ainge, Presti and of course Morey its hard not to see why. If we are gonna be real though it should be called Popovich ball as they really were the first people to use analytics in the NBA, they used it to scout guys like Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili and Popovich said he altered his offense to take advantage of the 3 pt shot even if he hated it. However they kept it under wraps until Morey and his team exposed it to everyone.
