Yup. Like Dork Elvis said at the beginning of the season, "We want to be the best team in June". We are going to buy even more help at the trade deadline. We have 4 1st rounders that we are willing to trade, and contracts of different sizes to grease deals. It's going down.
The fact that Melo is still unsigned is proof that Morey’s decision to sign him wasn’t necessarily a poor choice as much as it’s evidence that Melo has had a historic fall off. 538 agrees https://www.google.com/amp/s/fiveth...e-ever-fallen-as-fast-as-carmelo-anthony/amp/
No...Morey waiting a month for Melo to get bought out and sign him was still an incredibly poor choice.
"The teams that don't sign the Carmelo Anthonys and Joe Johnsons, not the last one who signs them, are the ones that succeed long term." -- Darlene Morel
Carmelo career is gonna be like Marbury another Knicks star, got old to play and then refused to belive younger talent was pushing him out. If he does play in china i bet he gets as much attention as he did in NY.
Imagine if Melo had just stayed in Denver. He probably would have had more team success along the way than he had in NY. He could have gone down as the greatest Nugget ever. He could be having a farewell tour just like Dwyane Wade. Instead, he is at the end of his career with no team to call home. Nobody is trading jerseys with him, he is sitting at home thinking he can still play. Sad it had to end this way, but he seemed to have a way of burning bridges or wearing out his welcome at every stop. A little loyalty and humility along the way may have led to a more graceful exit.
Weren't our offer during the FA pretty competitive? We dodged a bullet but I bet he could've had a better career with Morey as his GM.
Damn, no one’s signed poor Melo yet? He’s still at Lifetime practicing his midrange jumper? Where are his defenders at now? This dude can’t help any team win. Thank God we got rid of him early. He either needs to go to China where he can get buckets, or it might be time to call it a career. I’m sure the Big 3 League would love to have him.
Melo still could play in this league IF he just humbles himself but he won't do it. Melo's game gives less than the role he seeks. It's that simple. Melo could play in a lesser role that still has important impact but players like Melo are too proud to accept the actuality of reality.
I think he really did humble himself and did everything the Rockets asked of him that he could physically do. I just think 16 seasons in the league and he just doesn't seem to have the conditioning to be on the floor defensively at this level.
I agree, another big factor is how the game has changed. He’s not having to defend only post players or prototypical PF. With the 3pt shot now being so prevalent you’re out in space attempting to defend hybrid PFs who can handle and shoot while still rotating and rebounding. Combine with age like you said it’s not a surprise.
his role should be that of like a 10th man at best who gets 10-15 mpg, and maybe it goes up to 20 minutes if he happens to be hot offensively on certain nights...he’s 1 of the biggest defensive liabilities in the league, and he can’t score efficiently at all which is why he’s such a huge net negative Idk why any good team would want him or why any bad team would either...maybe he can fool another team into thinking he can be useful, but they’ll quickly find out the truth it’s a wrap for him
