This is who they are now and they made sure at the beginning of his rise to power that making him their figurehead in exchange for real power was worth selling out everything they stood for in the past. As long they get to oppress LGBT people and others and force their religion down the throats of as many people as possible they really don't care if the president was the leader of a child sex trafficking ring.
