NBA players must be released by March 1st to sign with another team. Hopefully no one of consequence gets released so there will be no pressure to have to pay them.

No, we give our draft picks and players to other teams so they can buy them out for us.

So, what wing defenders currently are free agents or potentially being bought out, today?

Morey will buy out Nene, today, and sign a 3rd 10-day.

And if you can’t have 3 10-days at one time, he’ll bump up Chiozza to the cheapest rookie ROS contract possible.

Don't we still have an open spot?

Yes, but no reason why you still can’t Buyout Nene for future tax savings on his last year. As the we-don’t-need-House crew says, the Miami game proved we can win without him (as long as Paul and Harden never rest), and if we need him, we’re not going anywhere anyhow.

Hell, it would be worth it just to have him give $100k back. Every penny counts.

Our best fit is playing for the Vipers right now, and it's frustrating.

Why would they be pissed. Players can’t be bought out without their consent. And often they make enough from 2nd contract and playoff pay to make up the difference, not to mention — as in Faried and Rivers cases — playing helps (re)establish future pay, vs sitting with disgruntled grumbles watching losers activate late-season tank mode.

And if you are straight being cut, then you still get paid 100%

Are the Rockets allowed to sign house to a contract for the min this year and like 2.5 mil per season for the next 2 years? If it's all about getting under the lux tax this year so we can spend for the next 3 then I don't see why that would be a problem.

No. But we don’t need to.

Rules: Maximum raises are limited to 8%, for incumbent teams. You can’t balloon payments in the NBA like u can NFL.

That said, we can sign House to $2.5m right now, without going over the luxury tax (assuming Capela doesn’t realize all three incentive bonuses). Not to say I would, but that's the math. That means no other buyout player, though, fwiw.

If we end up signing House instead of picking up a buyout player, how soon could we expect to have him back on the roster? Wasn’t it like the 23rd after gleague is done?
