I know he’s gonna be held down for service time and workload considerations but Whitley would really benefit from getting as much time with Verlander and Cole if this is their last season in Houston.
Pay Verlander whatever he wants for the next 3 seasons. Verlander, Whitley, McCullers, James, and whoever pans out between Martin/Perez/Bukauskas/Valdez/etc. is a fine rotation.
The '16 draft thread is fun to re-read: Forrest Whitley, Alamo Heights HS. Got to see him twice, Nolan was there for his no-hitter a couple of weeks ago. The kid's about 6'6, 220. He has a great arm. ... Good pick. Be a while before we ever see him, but I like the upside. ... Whitley was one of the more obvious prospects for 17, hard to give a great or awful grade on that pick but he is not who I would have chosen. B- prospect, C/C+ grade on the pick. ...
Cleary they are trying to gauge just how playable Kemp is in CF. He's being flanked by our 2 best outfielders.
Cole went 1 inning without giving up anything. Miley went 2 innings with 1 walk and no hits. I wish the game was televised today. I wanted to see Miley pitch.
Not that sure where you're coming from here. At no point in his Astros' career has McHugh ever not been at worst solid, but more accurately an above average SP. Do you think it's that huge a thing spending one year with heavy usage in the bullpen? Not trying to argue here, just surprised you see McQ as a question mark. Disclosure: I think McQ has been criminally underrated his entire tenure here (sometimes by me, too), and so I guess I'm triggered about the continuing international conspiracy to deny McQ his propers when he gets home. My opinion is that McQ is *not* (I repeat, not) a question mark. And your opinion that he is, is categorically wrong.
