Ain’t nobody trying to hear this ****.

This is Lebron to Houston via sign and trade bullshit again. Phili doesn’t want our garbage.

Don't forget about a 3 team deal with Philly taking back only a second round pick and no salaries. Some team under the cap would love to have EG and Tucker on one-year, below market deals.

Cap holds - I cant recall if they are second year vet min or rookie min …. the difference is about a million per. ~$550k vs ~$1.5m

Either way , this seems real unlikely … They cant create the cap space and would be hard capped in the event of a S&T which seems an impossibility to remain under given the empty roster spots And Butler isn't giving away $10m to opt in ….

The whole thing seems to be an impossibility.

This to me makes the most sense as to why we could (emphasis on the could) end up getting JB.

This all could have been said before the Chris Pail trade too, but he left $10m that year and a max contract on the table to make it happen...

If Butler threatens to walk for nothing, Gordon and a 1st round pick is hardly a garbage return.

Don't think the deal will happen because I have trouble believing Butler's willingness, but I think it's very realistic from both sides if he is.

According to hoopshype, Philly “only” has 68 million in salary committed for next season. Maybe Morey can work some magic there.

if the only way that Butler could come here is via opt-in & trade because a S&T, which is unlikely to begin with, would hard cap us, then yeah, go ahead and lock this thread up

Morey and the rest of the FO got that good kush if they feel they have more than a good shot to get him

Not very high on Butler after his tantrum and tirade to force his way out of CHI.
What if he's not happy here? It's James' team.
Is he going to destroy our locker room if he doesn't get his way?
Is that worth moving heaven and earth to get him?

Maybe we will offer 7-8 from our non taxpwr MLE that we worked so hard to get .

JB signs a 1-2 year deal here to try and win a chip .....

Basically takes a massive payout with a wink wink we pay him after Paul leaves .

    WOW. Thanks for the CyberBomb!

I am not surprised at all that Butler is still on their radar. His game fits the team. He can be the "1B" to Harden's "1A." CP3 is best utilized as a 3rd star. As a unit they would help each other take less minutes off their workload. JB is great in ISO and gets to the line. Is a clutch player. Not to mention the defense where he can play the 2/3/4.

Butler can "opt-in" and trade in this scenario. Much like the process Morey used with CP3. Perhaps the Rockets have a pipeline in back channel talks that will allow them to do this the way they worked it with CP. Then the agreement to offer JB a 4yr max after that season like CP.

And since the Rockets are ducking the LT this year, they can not fear the LT Repeater with JB on board as a 3rd star making big salary.

This will be interesting to monitor. Thanks again @cyberx for the post!

We don't get the non-taxpayer MLE next year by being under the tax this year. Use of the non-taxpayer MLE in the offseason coming up would hard cap us at the apron and that would be extremely difficult to pull off.

It would also require Butler to pay for like $20 million less per year than he can get elsewhere which is ridiculous to even speculate about.

It would take 3 years before we could max him out if he signed here for MLE level dollars. He'd give up 60-80 million in that time. We wouldn't be able to ever make him whole on that.

    Non-starter.

I am not worried about Butler's chemistry fit in Houston. His issues have more to do with younger players not working hard. In Houston he would have 2 alpha's in Harden and CP that he would RESPECT. And also PJ Tucker. The role and pecking order would be well defined. The communication issues that Butler has with other players are more that JB is confrontational. But Harden/CP/Tucker hold themselves accountable and talk in the same language.

Right, because journalists, agents, marketers, etc have all made fantastic livings by giving up their sources on insider information?? @cyberx has proven himself to be legitimate time and time again.

BINGO! You got it. The CP3 deal. Butler has to do his part though to use leverage on the threat of leaving.

Harden backchannel talked to CP before the Rockets trade. Very possible conversations have been ongoing.

Gordon(Nene filler) + 1st. This could happen shortly after the upcoming draft and before July FA.
