Yeah, but with a nudge nudge wink wink agreement to a big max following it (Chris Paul style?)

    God bless you!
Butler nor Shumpert is BYC in the possible scenario. You only become hard capped if you RECEIVE a player in a SNT. Butler would opt in with the promise of essentially a 5 or 6 year contract (including opt-in) compared to 4 anywhere else. To avoid BYC on Shumpert you can resign him for 1 year up to 120% of his salary this year which is close to Gordon. Therefore, technically you could resign Shumpert to a $13,200,000 one year deal add Nene and maybe a Clark or Hartenstein with several #1s and get the deal done. The likely route is Gordon instead but Philly has emptied the cupboard and is losing Butler for NOTHING. A tradeable expiring wing and picks is not a bad consolation prize. The contracts on the books and the cap holds for Philly will put them at or near the cap anyway.

    1. Butler will not sacrifice $ to come here. If you think he will you know nothing about him.

    2. Philadelphia will not do a S+T and pay tens of millions in luxury tax for the likes of Ego and Tucker.

If there is any way this happens without a S+T or a Butler opt in and trade then someone please elaborate.

I said the same thing when the CP rumors were happening. Losing Butler plus Saric & RoCo for nothing would be terrible.

This was the reason for the Harris trade. Philly knew it was dumping its last assets but they felt they could resign Harris easily even if Butler left as a consolation prize. I still think this doesn't happen even less so than last time but just good to hear they may try it because they blew this year so bad.

    The circumstances are pretty different.

In Paul's case he gave up a few million but actually ended up netting more by getting the max the next year.

In Butler's case he'd be giving up north of $10 million AND there's no reason to think he couldn't get the full max on the open market (Or from Philly.)

I won't rule it out obviously as I'm not an insider, but there is a lot to leap over here.

    No.
Their owner has never spent much, and in fact has been constantly penny pinching with some shenanigans that even lead the NBA to change the rules.
Already after the Harris trade there were many good journalists like Lowe who said that it's possible that he will offer max to only one of the two, unless they go to like the finals.
Be so full in the luxury tax for the likes of Ego? No way.
The risk has already been taken the minute they doubled down with the Harris trade and everything is a sunk cost.

There is no scenario where the Rockets get Butler that doesn't involve one of those two options or him signing for the MLE lol.

What if we trade Capela, Ego and the rest into capspace of a third team for picks?

Ok. It’s one thing to have wishful thinking. But let’s not change the rules of the NBA just for the sake of talking about acquiring every player we want.

There will be no re-negotiating contracts! So now it’s back to the opting in and trading for him, which is back to wishful thinking.

Scared to death of this happening... this dude seems like an "all or nothing" proposition.

I’m really not trying to hate. But if this was from a source, there must have been some sort of elaboration on how this nearly impossible acquisition would go about.

    Sigh.

An insider can't confirm something will come of inside information. They can only give people a glimpse into what's happening at the time. They're not soothsayers.

You obviously did a lot of searching/research to compile this list.

Which of the many things you listed can you confirm wasn't good intel? That's a Socratic question. The answer is 0.

Is it your aim to stop insiders from posting inside info? If you're trying to protect our team from inside info getting out there I can respect that and way to be. If you're hoping for better intel, try a fortuneteller.

    Absolutely not happening.

This is Tilman-speak trying to save face after getting relentlessly mocked by Clutchfans for Luxury Tax Savings.

Knowing this team, I bet we end up stalled at the 2-yard line again with Elton Brand refusing to deal with Morey.

Well I hope this isn't true and Morey doesn't waste his time with the is BS again, because I really don't see it happening.

I don't think the team that gets Jimmy Butler is going to be happy about it.
