A fair and sincere question that warrants a serious response. I am not a big AOC fan as I find her policies proposals (like Warrens and Sanders) to be too to the left. And... I believe threads that discuss politicians actual positions (communicated via tweets, interviews, speeches and their web sites) are really positives. Since I don't agree with her either I don't find their much "debate" so I rarely post in threads about her. And to be honest, while she is a Unites States congresswoman, her primary role to support the needs and interests of NY residents. So while I don't necessarily like her... she attracted the attention of support for people in her district. I just jumped in to remind the trump supporters that they turn a blind eye (if not actually agree with) the similarly extreme positions and statements (tweets) from trump. I agree with you... we need to do a better job of electing people to represent us. I really agree and like your idea that we need leaders that inspire unity. But folks that elected trump (and continue to defend/support him) have questionable basis for questioning anyone else for why they voted for or support any other candidate IMO. But... since this is a "AOC tweets and says..." thread, I will be fair and stay out. After all, trump supporters need their safe places...
“There’s scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult. And it does lead young people to have a legitimate question: is it okay to still have children?” Which part of this is wrong?
Assuming you think climate change is a man-made phenomenon, do you think her concern is not valid? If not, why? I'm not saying I agree with her, but I understand her thinking/position.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass introduced the GND resolution. Can we start a Ed Markey Tweets thread? https://thehill.com/policy/energy-e...andidates-are-saying-about-the-green-new-deal Amy Klobuchar, Tulsi Gabbard and John Delaney do not support the GND resolution. These three may support parts of the GND, just not the whole.
"Don't have children" would also apply to the immigrants, I imagine. Unless you want to go full Alex Jones/PJW on us, which you might already have.
Well, then obviously the free market which is always maximally efficient will no doubt teach her a lesson and these 60 pages of posts will be validated.
the Holocaust was "very difficult." Climate change will not be very difficult. And I despair at the idea of central government planners who are eager to tell people whether to have children or not.
I have seen lots of posts complaining about GND, and some that either exaggerate or even outright lie about what is in GND. But... still no explanation why GND is so controversial... perhaps you can start with a short paragraph was to what GND is?
I do not have a high degree of confidence in this statement. She's just another hairless ape thinking out loud like you and I. She's not a dictator with a giant sterilization raygun.
Either that or maybe she'll luck out and get a Chief of Staff who is happy sharing a 2 bedroom apartment in Arlington.
The irony here is that climate change has the ability to be way, way worse than any event in human history. Rising sea levels can displace people and cause trillions upon trillions of dollars in damage. The effect on the food chain can kill hundreds of millions of people over time (not us fatties but third world countries for sure). The wildfires, storms, and heatwaves are what grab attention, but the most insidious killers are the tectonic, slow-moving coups against our species. Of course we here in Americaland are quite well protected against the ill-effects of this, but the rest of the world's poor are kinda F'd in the A if these things go South.
Extreme Left Extreme Right Extreme Left and Extreme Right Things aren't this black and white, but let's said those are the 3 possibilities in government, which one would tend to result in more centered policies? Certainly not Extreme Left and not Extreme Right. Now, maybe not the last one either, but it's not a certainty. Again, the perspective here is overall result and not that the extreme sides will change.
Klobacher is the only one exhibiting an ounce of intelligence ….. the rest of them are trying to see who can run farther left faster. GND is an impossibility. They are asking for the stars hoping to get a tiny asteroid.
