There's a Harry Truman quote which I can't quite remember specifically, but as WW2 was ending he said something like: "and with the end of this war, we will go back to bickering and arguing with each other and not getting anything done." Something like that.

Ban social media and 24 hour news.

Everyone gets up in arms about every little thing. It's a non-stop rage monster.

You can't work together when you oppose each other on nearly every single issue just because the other side is for/against it. Someone will win and someone will lose. The question is whether the losing side takes it or uses violence when they don't get what they want. The history of man says violence wins out.

Yeah...I get that a lot. To me it’s not that hard to try and understand a position and also to agree or disagree regardless of the politicality of the position.

Agree. It's the age of the amygdala (the fear and rage center of the brain -- the animal part, basically). "Not good!"

You have to put yourself in someone else's shoes, and then honestly ask yourself how you'd react. You have to really ask yourself...how does my policy or agenda affect everyone...and WHY does that person disagree with me?

Take any single issue and work both sides. Its like being in debate class and getting assigned to defend a position you don't agree with. It is often eye opening.

Take an example: Government run Health Care

Why would someone be against national health care?

    • Perhaps they work for an insurance company and they'd lost their job
    • Maybe they are a Doctor and they think their income will go down
    • Maybe they are a hard working dual income family that would be High Earning, but Not Rich Yet...and would have significant tax increases and would lost their private insurance (or fear losing it)
    • Some tax increases for everyone
    • Perhaps they are concerned about America losing its edge in medical advancement (by most measurements, the US leads the world in medical advances and research...does socialized health care stifle this by removing the profit making potential?)

Why would someone be FOR national health care?
    • Low or no out of pocket costs for health care
    • Access to health care that may be more difficult to get to in some areas
    • Removal of overhead and admin costs form having many insurance carriers
    • No more bankruptcy due to medical costs
Always ask yourself: Does my policy position TAKE from someone? Would that someone be against my position if i'm TAKING from them? You'll begin to close the gap by understanding the other side

Someone's point about social media and news is also on point. When was the last time you got in a HEATED debate with someone while you were having dinner with them and you started yelling at each other? I'm sure it happens, but its rare. We get into echo chambers on the internet and it gets stirred up louder and louder. People have a natural tendency to want to get attention. What better way to get attention than to announce your views on social media and get some segment of the population agree with you.

People work together all the time, if only because politics is the most superficial alignment there is. Shared race, class, organizational hierarchy, religious affiliation and gender inform choices, opportunities and partnerships far more than the nonsense people pretend to care about in an anonymous forum. Half of what goes on here is projecting or emotional transference, nothing more or less.

    Especially the racists.

Hey, stop doing and saying racist things and you won't be called racist. It's a simple thing.

Whether you believe trump is racist is irrelevant if you want cooperation. People dont respond to being called racist with comrodory.

In order to work together you also need to be able to tell the truth to each other. Universal truths you can agree on are the basis for coming to some sort of win-win middle ground.

You talk a big game going the other way back at someone like me, but would you do your part to accept truth in an argument?

So don't call the racist a racist if you want to work together but working together is hippie bullshit that is awful for government anyway? Even worse than having a racist for President? Sounds legit.

Why don't you confer with your zero shame having self and come back when you have your strategery straight.

dont call someone racist if you want to work with them. Radical thought I know. Why do you want to 'work together' with a bunch of people you think are racists anyways?

what strategy do refer? I already said I have no desire to 'work together' with the left.

Don't be a racist if you want to work with others. Radical thought I know.

That's how the government is set up. Do I need to explain representative Democracy for you?

So your favored government would be racist autocracy? Let's be clear.

As long as this is your position you want get the comrodory you seek. Not sure why u seek it. Btw what trump policies are you calling racist? Enforcing immigration law?

No idea what you are trying to talk to. In a democracy the goal is to convince people your position is correct, not compromise.

In my preferred government , it would be irrelevant if the people running it were racist. They wouldn't be able to act on it.

Time. 1-2 decade give or take. There is already good awareness on the impact of the new attention (or lack of) economy. It's what drive facebook, twitter, 24hrs news. They leverage science basic understanding of how people work and use that to hook you for their financial gain.

The growing awareness is how unhealthy this is not just for society in general, but to each individual.

It will take some time, but people will learn that slowing down, inner reflection, self thought and deep consideration and physical engagement is so much more healthy to the mind and body than what's happening over the past few years. What's happening is people have lost their isolation time, self time, less physical group time, while they are being manipulated by others minds and thoughts. When something happen, instead of letting that sink in and have some own reflection, people reach out to others and let others thought influence their own, to the point of burying themselves and denying themselves - basically being manipulated by others, by choice.

When people realize the harm, they will eventually move away. Of course not all, but enough to re-balance and it would naturally lead to less divisiveness through an ability to known self more and the willingness to hear out others, and being less manipulated by outsiders.
