Das Boot was such an awesome film. The tension was nerve wracking and the scene where they lowered to such depths that bolts started popping was a great test to surround sound. Submarine movies always seem good... an old one to see is The Enemy Below with Robert Mitchum.
Abducted in Plain Sight - 4/5 Documentary on Netflix. Bizarre story of a pedophile that befriended a nice family and became obsessed with an underage girl. It was a little unbelievable at first, I couldn't understand some of the decisions the parents made. Ray Romano: Around the Corner - 3/5 Interesting idea for a stand up special. Ray Romano does two surprise shows at the Comedy Cellar in NY. I had never seen his stand-up before but it's what I expected. Mostly about family, getting old, marriage. It was funny, just not anything exciting.
Once Upon a Time in America: it could have been that it lasted so long, so late at night, but I watched most of it late night last night. It's still good, but man is it slow. And the actress who plays the actress girlfriend is just horrible, distractingly horrible. Grade: Inc, because I fell asleep a couple of times.
Lego Movie 2 Lacked the freshness of the first and missing its clever twist ending. Still fun, but this franchise is suffering from diminishing reurns. 7/10
Bohemian Rhapsody. Maybe 6 out of 10. I’m a huge queen fan but the whole thing seemed disjointed. Maybe bad editing. A lot of liberties with the facts but they’re making a movie not a documentary so no real problem there. On the other side Rami Malek did about as good a Freddie impersonation as possible.
Green Book. 7/10. I really wanted to like it more. It just felt... clumsy in direction. The performances were great, and it had some amusing moments. But it had the tell-tale here comes the sweet music -- you better feel something now thing that I really don't like from Hollywood. Want to know if Mahershala Ali did some of his own piano playing. It sure seemed like he did, but that's pretty easy to fake these days I'd guess.
Alita: Battle Angel - 9.0 I wanted to see action, a sci-fi story with visuals and was entertained. They develop the characters in the beginning, with the story based the manga “Gunnm” created by Yukito Kishiro, leading up to some of the action scenes during the Motorball stadium fights which were great in 3-D
