But there's not much you can do if the other teams won't work with you.

Don't forget Clint, we desperately need him to stay healthy as part of our "Big 3".

Moves this year might save Tilman like 20-50 million and he gets called a cheapskate.

.. how fun to be him..

(I guess it could be worse.. he could be a dishwasher at one of his establishments)

yes they are in win now mode, to say their not is a bit crazy. Just because you don't land a big fish, doesn't mean you were not trying to

Harden may be historic right now, but the team isn't winning a ring right now. Not this year, under any circumstances.

the Rockets aren't as healthy, the West is tougher, GSW is better.

And, sure hindsight is 20/20, but the offseason moves did not work out. it made the team worse.

My point... if you truly thought there was an opportunity to make the team REALLY competitive with the GSW this year, I don't think you were paying attention. Tobias Harris was the closest asset to do that, that got moved. The Rockets had no assets to compete on quality return. We threw out 4 first round picks to try and get Butler, when the Rockets own pick was looking better cause the team sucked, and no dice.

That being the case... salary dumps don't sound great, but I'm fine with them.

If we're complaining... or if I'm complaining... it's not about the moves or lack of moves, its about the picks.

What's the tally on the draft picks traded away? T hat was ultimately the "cost" of doing business. You could include Melton in that tally, though with hindsight now, I don't think that's a big loss.

I’m sure it could have, but it didn’t....

It’s not for lack of effort.

Let’s be clear what each comes from before calling the other delusional.

Many of y’all believe Morey did a good job due to the contractual situations.

Some us went one step ahead questioning whether those were moves were in the right direction.

There are three types of owners in the NBA.

    1) Owners for whom the team is a profit center (most teams)
    2) Owners for whom the team is just a vanity project (e.g. Dallas)
    3) Owners for whom the team is a community-building project (e.g. OKC)

Type 1 don't want to lose money for obvious reasons. Type two don't care as long as they get headlines. Type three would prefer not to lose money, but are willing to because it is essentially a philanthropic exercise.

Even if Tilman wanted to be anything but 1, he doesn't have a choice. His purchase was highly leveraged and he took out huge loans at big interest rates to buy the team. And while really wealthy, he isn't rich enough to be a #2 or #3 owner.

The consensus is that the primary goal today was to dump salary, not acquire more players. It's not a matter of teams not wanting to do deals; Rockets weren't trying to stay in luxury tax.

    Yes,

what cost us the playoffs last year??

Health and bad shooting from the supporting cast and bad coaching (too stubborn to call timeout or switch up the offense)

The Rockets had a deal to get Ellington, Ja Green and Temple. Miami and Memphis welshed on the deals. I'm not a capologist so I don't know if those deals would have got the Rockets under the lux tax, but the Rockets were trying to get better. Morey went with plan B because no one wants to cooperate.
