Sorry he isn’t your boyfriend PPat. #missingu

Here’s highlights from this year but they aren’t solely defensive highlights. The quickness still is there and he is only 28 years old. It seems like he’s been around for a hell of a lot longer though. He does some things in these games on offense that he wouldn’t have to do in Houston like some of the mid range shots he is forced to create and wild drives. He seems pretty comfortable coming off screens and shooting as well. This seems like a perfect situation for him.

We didn’t trade for Luc, but let’s hope Shumpert can provide a similar impact for the rest of the year

Will you edit my music video? My band is named Iman Shumpert. The song is “Defensive Compilation.” 7 and half minutes would be great. Please and thank you.

It's a perfect situation for all these guys playing with Harden and CP3. Look at Gerald Green, dude is feasting on a nightly basis to the tune of up to 25 points/game. For a bench player, that's just insane. I expect Shump's game to flourish to a new level. Dude will find himself crazy open looks.

Some people can't help but stretch things. He's not an elite defender, he's just a very good one. He's not a garbage offensive player, he is just limited to hitting open 3's enough to keep his defender near him. He's a good pick up. Not amazing, he's not going to blow anyone anyway, not bad, he will have hot streaks, he will have cold streaks, he will make dumb mistakes, he will make high energy plays, etc.

No one's dream deadline is Iman Shumpert (except Tilman) but this is a good thread created by OP where we can talk about some of his tendencies.

Morey is like Midas with the minimum deal guys during the season, it's turning to gold short term whereas he is like a hapless beggar in the offseason.

Luc was far more important for us than Shump will be. Luc is 6’8 and can defend 4 positions and rarely made mistakes.

I think he's going to find this buyout season more competitive than he's ever found it. Let's see how he does. We need at least one solid pick up. If we get the 2nd or 3rd best player available and Warriors don't pick up a better player, it will be a success.

Luc was also garbage in the playoffs so let's hope Shump isn't like him.

I think there is still a place for Ennis but maybe he eats into Austin Rivers, Gordon, and Gerald Green's minutes a little? We severely need an above average defensive wing and Shump definitely fits that bill. Would also rather have wide open looks from Shumpert than Gordon jacking up another contested 35 footer although he is playing much better lately. Maybe Ennis or House, if he returns, can be the backup 4 unless we get someone at the deadline to fill that role. All I know is Shumpert will be valuable to have to help set a defensive tone especially when Capela comes back. Our defense has finally shown some signs of life these past 2 games and Shumpert will only help that. Too valuable of a defensive player to not play at least 20+ minutes every night. Is offense is good enough to keep defenses honest especially playing with Harden and Paul.

Shumpert has played nearly a full season in his playoff runs with Lebron and his post season numbers are better than his regular season numbers.

Probably some of Green, Ennis and Rivers minutes. He should be around 20 mpg.

I don't have a video for you, but the sentiment I've seen among Kings fans is that they're quite upset about losing him. For a guy averaging 9/3/2 on 38% shooting, I have to assume that means he's at least still holding it down on defense.

    Is Shump starting 3 now?

I mean really, if we're just going to go balls/walls with 6'5" guys it's time to bring back House. Harden-Gordon-House-Shumpert-Tucker lineups actually sound capable of rotating everything. They just gotta communicate, rebound as a team and do whatever they can to support Harden on offense.

Shumpert isn't a star and never will be.

On some teams, he is nothing more than an 8-9th man that can defend and shoot well enough to keep teams from playing 5 on 4.

On the Rockets he very well could be a starter and a very important piece because he fits a need very well.

He is a very good athlete, he is a very good defender that is tailor made for a switching defensive scheme. He is athletic enough to guard point guards, and strong enough to switch on to 3's and 4's without any real issues within the flow of the defense.

I wish he were taller, then he would be close to perfect. He will not be as good at switching as Trevor was because Trevor had an amazing 7'2" wingspan.

In truth, there are maybe 3-4 people who can guard Durant, and they cost more than Knight and a pick. Batum would have been interesting for that task (and to act as a passer out of inside and high post) but his contract is just so terrible.

I like how the new barometer on this forum for defense is "Can he guard Durant?". lol I'm sorry but NO ONE in a Rockets uniform has been able to successfully contained Durant by themselves. Not Ariza, not Luc, not Tucker, etc.
