Rockets trade for Iman Shumpert

Really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Oh well, players outside of the 7 man rotation don't matter anyway.

Knight + Chriss for Otto Porter would actually make us a legitimate threat for the title. This...just doesn't do anything except giving up valuable 1st round picks like hotdogs

Dumped two guys who didn't play for a solid rotation wing? Not bad.

 

so a confirmed salary dump that nets us a low to mid-grade 3n'D option this year. I hope to hell there's a lot more. EG's knee, CP3's age and general health, our lack of depth ...people are kidding themselves if they think this team is ready to contend.

Make a deal of consequence for more than Tilman's pocketbook. Improve the freaking team damnit!

A couple points.

I am not sure what fans were expecting.

The owner this summer said that the Rockets would avoid the repeater tax. I don’t like it, but the reality is that not many teams have gone into the repeater tax.

That meant that the Rockets were going to move Brandon Knight. He was never more than a salary to move. Teams did not want to pay Knight next year. So the trade options were very limited.

Shumpert is a serious upgrade for the Rockets. He is the Rockets best perimeter defender and can defend 3-4 positions on switches. The Rockets desperately miss a good defensive swing like last year with Luc and Trevor. Shumpert fills that role. Offensively he shots 3’s well enough to not be a bad liability on offense. This filled a real need.

The Rockets are still talking to teams about other deals before the deadline. We still want a 4/5.

Guys, we all know our biggest need going into the trade deadline was the guard position.

 

The negativity over Shump is puzzling. He’s a perfect fit

It's not all that puzzling if you realize that those who are b****ing about getting Iman for crap are also the ones that wonder why the Rockets had to sign Paul to the max contract. I.e. they are clueless

 

how that even correlates in your mind is beyond me

 

You guys have been asking for a 3 who could play defense and make some 3s. While Shumpert is not the ideal option (Otto Porter), he is instantly our best guy to defend guys like Durant.

Absent getting AD, this is not a bad trade at all.
